Just received a text from the "Raymarine Official Forecast" with a slightly different view. It's predicting a SW 2-3 at the start increasing during the day to F4 possibly 5 near St Catherine's Point. Chance of showers/light rain. Max T 19C.

I'm not sure how Raymarine predict, I am assuming it is model data, but I may be wrong. If so, I can see their reasoning. Crucial thing to remember here is that, unless they have overlayed some MM5 techniques, models don't actually 'see' the isle of Wight, it is too small for their resolutioni.
having said that, using the 12Z data from various models and human interpretation, I would have gone with SW 3-4 at the start, increasing to a 5 on the southern coasts (remember the air will be compressed against the coast oin that SW'ly), so may nudge a F6. Becoming 5-6 in the west. Still looks a fairly moist flow through the channel to me so I would be thinking light rain and moderate visibility.
Still a long way off though and things can change.
Hope that helps, Simon
