Incident at weekend. Glad to hear that no-one was hurt, but sounds like nasty damage to keel box. Hope it is covered by the insurance OK.
I spend a lot of time in that area and have often anchored very close to the drying rocks in Mermaid's Cove. Perhaps I need to be a little more carefull round there in future! As you can see, there are plenty of rocks to choose from! And this pic is taken at high water.

Hmm, 6ft at C3 1/2 an hour before low water. 16th April. Liverpool High 8.1 m Liverpool Low 1.7 m
Shifty sands about the Place!
3 Years ago watched a mobo turf into Mermaids a bit quickish. Henceforth severing his outdrive on a sticky up bit! Poking about the place at low water, I,m convinced there are one or two sticky up bits there, that aren't on the Chart!!
Sunday a mobo was aground at Lavan Sands. Monday a yacht was high and dry going into Conwy. Busy time for Conwy and Beaumaris ILB's.

A rare picture of Llandwyn island when it is actually surrounded by water. For those not familiar with the area, the East side of Llandwyn is a popular anchorage. Pilot's cove itself is suitable for shallow drafts only. It is popular with bathers, so on hot sunny days the socially aware anchor outside. Mermaid's cove is a favourite of mine, but one has to mind the submerged rock - see picture.

Sometimes Llandwyn gets crowded - looking West, to Pilot's cove:

Looking East, to Snowdonia:

I thought that I'd lost you somewhere on the battlements on Caernarfon Castle quaffing ale in that unique Sailing Club Bar
Warm toes? Crikey. It was yonks ago that your PISBD* diesel took us to the IOM .....We made it as we still make the annual 'box of kippers from Paddy's Market - Dash' for the TTs, except this year it's a bunch of 'plegics (Prefix is/are various latin numbers between 1 or 2) on crutches/splints/spliffs/harnesses etc.
Cheers,
Nige
*AGAN Competition: If 'PISBD' means 'Past its sell by date' then what does 'AGAN' equate too? PRIZE: It's 2 bottles of posh red wine to the winner at the Porth Wen BBQ ... If nobody wins the prize and it's very simple, then it will be first come first serve with the posh crackled plastic glasses ........

There are at least 3 unmarked rocks. The one Freestyle has marked plus 2 more in the north. One of which blocks the passage between the little Island & the shore. They're all marked on my charts (now!) They are usually visible by the time they are a threat as the water is generally pretty clear (at least to 6' or so). I have been one of 2 yachts anchored in Mermaids cove, but I had to dry out for an hour or two to clear the other boat & the various rocks.
As to the lifeboat call out for a stranding on Lavan sands - it's a lovely picnic spot so I don't understand why the wives & kids needed to be airlifted off. Or why a Mayday was sent.
There was another Mayday over the weekend for a fouled prop for Chrissakes! The HMCG girl was very polite, "Do you have an anchor? Could you deploy it to hold your position? Is there any actual risk to life?" Bless her, she had more seamanship skills than the distressed skipper will ever have!
