we was motorsailing along in absolute calm today when my crew looks up and says "oh you'll have to repair that flapping sail" - I look aloft to see to my disgust that a foot square section of the UV strip on the genny has come loose. and indeed half of that amount has taken flight! boats !! You're never finished with them! any suggestions where i could find a 2 foot square patch of blue uv strip quickly ?
I propose to (sloowly) hand sew this. Is is normally stuck with adhesive as well as sown? Alternatively could anyone educate me a little about a foam luff I come across on this forum but of which i have no knowledge ? Thanks from an exasperated wannabe skipper...

Foam luffs are used on genoas which roll up on the forestay in an attempt to reduce the belly of the sail in proportion to the sail area when you put a few rolls in it to reef it. The idea is to pad the centre part of the luff so as to roll more of it than at the head and the foot. In the absence of such an arrangement, most of the belly of the genoa gets left in the diminished area of deployed sail, so it becomes more and more like a sack as you roll it.
