I am moving the boat up to Oban soon. At what point of the tide should I leave Campbeltown to reach Gigha in time for a couple of pints, a round of golf (9 holes), another couple of pints and a meal and then catch the start of the north going tide to whisk me up the Sound of Jura and past Fladda?

But it is dark by 4:00pm in the middle of summer...
I'd suggest leaving around about last week sometime...

If leaving Campbeltown, we've allowed (from memory) two to two and half hours to pick up the tide near the Arranman's Barrels, but best to check with the CCC Sailing Directions.
Charming as Campbeltown is, Sanda has become a very popular stopping off point, particularly since the Byron Darnton opened.

I think you should have a paid hand aboard and require him/her to do such tedious calculations. And don't waste your time playing golf.

I don't think playing 9 holes of golf once or twice a year, to avoid drinking too much beer, while waiting for the tide, really needs much planning or a book.
Try the mobo forum. They need something to do when they get to wherever they're going and before they turn round and roar back again.
