Grand Soleil trading?
      #1913949 - 01/07/2008 22:14

While chatting to someone today from the marine trade, after telling me he thought his phone was on the blink given the lack of customer calls he went on to say Grand Soleil had ceased trading.

This was news to me, can someone confirm?

http://www.grandsoleil.co.uk/

the message on the website says it all. I relates to the UK brokerage not to Cantiere Del Pardo the Italian manufacturer

Im not surprised to learn that Grand Soleil UK brokerage has ceased trading. Seven years ago they tried to sell me a Grand Soleil 45 with a bent keel which was parked on the hard 80 metres from their office. They denied all knowledge of the damage! I'm surprised they lasted this long.

The orderly closure of the UK sales agency does not seem like such a big event, I assume the owners would have to say "in administration" if this was applicable.

The story as recounted to me involved the closure of the continental production facility.

I think this may be one of many.

With likely sales drop in a recession of 60% a number of brokers may decide to cease before they go bust!

With loss of red diesel MoBo brokers are probably finding it even harder.

Wottabout the builders? Presumably some of them can exist for a while on their back orders, but then it'll be time for layoffs and shut downs if new orders aren't coming through, and with increased raw material costs they may not do. I'm sure the industry will make the usual 'orders-up' noises after SIBS, but I wonder how cheerful they really are at the moment?
