Groundhog season? (The weather)
      #1920322 - 07/07/2008 06:54

Brilliant, about to start our summer holidays and the weather is almost a complete repeat of last year. My family are beginning to question why we have a boat....

Yep, that's why mine's for sale. That and hopeless service from UK marine industry, outrageous marina fees, the impossibility of getting a berth without booking a month in advance, and the fact the Solent is utter rubbish.

That feels better!

The weather gods are against us. I made a similar post on mobo forum using almost exactlythe same words last week.

On the bright side, Cowes, Newtown, Poole, even Bembridge(if you can afford it ) will be less crowded!

You could be in a Spanish villa, with just as bad weather for all but 2 days, according to different parties of friends who just got back- at least it was sunny and warm out of the wind on Sat pm in Chi Hbr.

A chance to visit all those IoW and New Forest places you always meant to go to, but had to antifoul, etc.

Why are people always on such a downer about the Solent? There is so much to see and do. Yes, it does get crowded at times but that's part of the fun. And even if the weather is dire you can usually still get out for a play on the Solent.

I have sailed on the Solent only a few times when we had a trailer Sailor and odd occasions on other peoples boats. It is a fantastic place to sail, more harbours than you could ever need all within a days sail and allways shelter on one side or the other. We did take local advice and only sailed there Monday to Friday.
