My SWMBO would like to do Day Skipper practical but is lacking in confidence (she is actualy very good but will not believe me). Can anyone reommend a south coast school sympathethic to the needs of the more mature woman?

The British Offshore Sailing School (BOSS) based at Hamble Point do ladies only courses. ............................................... See here
............................................................................. I expect others do as well
It's a good plan to get a group together from a club or owners association.

Speak with Tina at AT Sailing Ltd, They do Ladies only courses also. They are extremely good for the Mature Lady. She has feed back forms that she can show you.

Would she feel more confident if you sailed with her on the course? Or would that make it worse?

You are joking!
Seriously, I think I am a little too experienced for this course having done it thirty years ago and done many thousands of miles since.
She needs to be away from me to prove to herself that she is capable in her own right. We get on very well when sailing together but she does tend to hide behind her lack of offshore miles. She just needs bringing out.
It worked with the previous SWMBO anyway!

Our boats are turned over to the Ladies usually on a September weekend, on the East Coast, normally on the Orwell. Perhaps you could mention that to her?
They have been very successful. At least, we think so, cos the boys take the remaining boats and go off in the opposite direction.

Southern Sailing.
Be prepared for her to come back from the course and start telling you that you are doing things the wrong way!

Christchurch Yachting. Nice family-friendly small company that will treat her well and boost her confidence. No, I'm not connected with them.
