Non-issue perhaps? "However, she said the RNLI and county council had agreed a procedure for dealing with such cases.
This means that cars would be issued with an enforcement notice, but then senior lifeboat officers submit a special form to the council which then cancels the ticket."

Next time out they should take the Traffic Warden with them so he more clearly understands what "public service" really means.

If thats the case then only fair that they do job exchange, I suspect the RNLI men could have a whale of a time in Fowey dishing out tickets ;-)

Clearly a warden of very limited intellect.
On the other hand the situation has been anticipated and allowed for (see last paragraph) and no doubt the local RNLI dealt with the situation through the normal channels and all was sorted so its a bit of a storm in a tea cup.
The fact is it made a good story for the local paper.

The council in Fowey muppets on the parking.... I got a ticket their 2 years ago... we had hired a cottage on the road down from the Marine Hotel, and had parked at the parking lot way up top...... the signs telling the T and C's had two different versions, the machine would only take coins and would only accept a maximum of something like 8 hours worth, despite allowing longer parking, etc etc. either way I would have needed something like £30 or something in one pound coins to park for the weekend,(Which was allowed) which of course I didnt have, and the machine wouldnt have accepted anyways, so I just put in the max, like £8 or something, and thought, [--word removed--] it I'll take the ticket, and then contest it when it arrives based upon the signage not being right.....
But basically a total balls up with no real thought...

The volunteers parked in a public carpark because they couldn't get to their own - they displayed RNLI badges. The RNLI badge is not a recognised permit to park so the PW issued a penalty notice
The RNLI have appealed this with a "special form" which I assume confirms the two were on the shout and the registration no.s of their cars and should result in the cancellation of the ticket.
I have no problem with this procedure - I doubt the RNLI badges are difficult to clone which could mean that if accepted as a permit to park then it could be wrongly used. By senior officers submitting information which confirms the legitimacy of the use of the badge there are no penalty charges applied.
This is yet another media hype over something that the parties involved have already resolved. Come back when the penalty charges are not dropped ... then you'll have something to shout about.

what excellent journalism as well, "The men were just a few minutes in to their mackerel fishing trip off the Cornish coast when their 6 Foot inflatable had engine trouble and eventually overturned." Cheers Joe

It's an issue, all right. It's creeping authoritarianism, that every local authority indulges in - wheely-bin fines, no parking for local residents, ludicrous planning disputes - and is poisoning the ordinary quality of life in many areas. Many local government officers, at quite junior levels, act as if they were an occupying army instead of supposedly-civil servants. Many elected councillors find they have no influence at all over the activities and prejudices of their supposed 'employees'..... Grrr!
