Tried to book a charter yacht on the south coast today. Me (qualified to RYA Coastal Skipper course completion certificate - not done the exam yet), SWMBO no experience & the kids.
I chartered once previously - a weekend charter (crew as above) in solent. Apart from this, most of my miles as skipper were the RYA courses.
Basically that was not enough. I would need coastal skipper exam or at least one other crew to dazed kipper level on board.
I previously thought all needed was the day skipper certificate (plus say at least one other able person to helm, make mayday call etc.). I thought I'd share this in case any of you had a smililar misconception.
