I think the common definition would be when you cros your outbound track on your return - that seems to be the goal most modern circumnavigators set. By that definition he suceeded before RKJ did. He just didn't give a toss for the rest of it - wining the race and all that - or rather he chose to turn his back. Thats the way some likes it!
