I read John Illingsworth book on the maid of malham, it was I think his autobiography however he along with angus primrose was the designer og GMIV and there was a chapter in the book where he went on at length about chichester;percieved shortcoming of the boat and gathered that he wasnt too impressed by chichester. mind you this is a sailor builder and designer who thought nothing of building a boat then chopping and changing quite literally all aspects of the boat till he got it right, rather in the same way as modern Americup yachts are treated, new keel here, longer transom, chop a few feet of the bow etc and this is in the forties I beleive anyway a riveting read. highly reccomend it. |
