Whipping!

NOOOO! Not that kind of whipping

I have just added a stern anchor to my boat and I had thought about finding someone who would make up the end of the anchor rode warp with an eye so that I can shakle the warp to the chain. Then I found a great book (the name of which escapes me as it is on the boat!) but I thought I would have a go myself.

Bought a splicing spike and some whipping twine and off I went. First was properly whipping the ends the mooring warps, then I had a go at back-splicing on a thimble for the anchor rode.

All went rather well. Not the tidiest back splice I have seen but it is certainly servicable. I am sure I will improve with a bit more practice. I will never worry again about splicing a loop or thimble on the end of a 3-strand rope... now, splicing braided rope looks a little harder
