Stop for a chat at Molesey Lock this weekend

Press release about an event happening this weekend at Molesey Lock.

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May, the Environment Agency is hosting the first ever joint river safety event at Molesey Lock on the River Thames near Hampton Court.
Representatives from the Environment Agency, Surrey Police, Met Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue (FRS), RNLI, Thames21 Safer Waterways and Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) will all be on hand to discuss issues like crime prevention, using the River Thames safely, and the latest on issues in the Tideway.

Surrey Fire & Rescue will also be handing out free smoke detectors to boaters and will be giving advice on how to avoid boat fires.

The Boat Safety Scheme will be there on Saturday as part of their campaign to raise awareness of boat fire week and to offer general boat safety advice.

Environment Agency Waterways Team Leader Nick Mckie-Smith said: “Boaters may not realise how many public services are involved in the overall management of the River Thames. This open weekend offers them the chance to find out who does what and how we are working together to provide a safer river for them to enjoy. The boating season is starting to pick up now so it’s also a good time to get a reminder on how to use the river safely.

Members of the public are welcome to come down and have a chat and find out more about everything there is to do on the River Thames. The Flood Incident Management Team from the Environment Agency will also be there on Sunday.”

Boaters passing through Molesey locks are welcome to moor up and join in the two day event.
