I have been chatting with another about Annual Event !!
|
|
I must be a glutton for punishment ....
But the proposal is to make this an Annual Event. Possibly rotating venues or staying with Yarmouth ... as it has bad and good weather possibilities ....
So at present it is Yarmouth May Bank Holiday Weekend Annual YBW Meeting........
So who's in favour ??

Sounds good. I'd be interested in the statistics: boats promised, how many got there and what types, not to mention increase in your blood pressure, hair-pulling, nail-biting etcet.

Great idea Nigel, count me in. Sort the wind out F3/4 would be nice, keep the rain away and the sun out. Great mix of sail and mobo made it perfect and friendly. Start collecting prizes for raffle, awards etc. Thanks again, had a great time.

This event numbers FYI
|
|
Original meet total was 31 boats. 18 for Hayles, 13 for HM pontoons.
Of that 14 arrived at Hayles and a variable number at HM .... I estimate that possible max number that made it - even if left on sunday etc. ----- silly sods - missing the BBQ !! .... maybe 24 - 25.
It was surprising that the Sail part were the least represented and had most failed attendance. The MOBO's near all made it. Second that the smallest sail made it !! Sorry about that - but being second smallest sail-boat at 25ft .... was surprised that others didn't. Smallest arrival was ~20ft (MOBO) .... largest was 43ft MOBO. With all sorts inbetween.
During the Sunday BBQ ........ we were entertained by Air-Sea Rescue + Lifeboat drill ..... Tall ship under full tops and royals going through Solent ..... and GC1's humour !!

Not everybody has a lorry engine to push them through the wind/waves!

Second smallest sailboat....... When did the sails ever leave their covers apart from when you dropped the mast!!! Hope the mast is now OK and furling gear working.

cut & paste ?????
Malcb took the picture en-route to Newport on the Thursday .... if you look at the main near mast - you can see the loose line laying across the sail, which is the broken block etc.

Malcb ... steve's on a wind-up !!
|
|
It's an on-going wind-up !!
I have to admit though that engine does tend to stay on too long - especially when chasing tide to Newport .... as he knows !!
Well if I can get the spinny to play - should up her speed a bit ......

Next event ...
|
|
I think that having proven that small Mobo's and our small raggies can make it through the weather - maybe attendance next year will be more mixed rag / mobo .....
At moment Yarmouth HM is being difficult over deposits paid ... so makes one consider different tactic / booking strategy next time.
I like the idea of Yarmouth as venue - it has both good and bad weather capability - just a right s*d when wind over tide and weather turns to get there.
We are hoping that we can improve on this years with a few more prizes from others as well as IPC / YBW again. Discussion is underway at moment ref. the YBW connection - last meetings IPC/YBW contingent couldn't make it ...
I was disappointed that more Raggies didn't make it and also with the weather we couldn't have the kids / grown-ups games as planned ... still it went well and next year fingers crossed should be better.
Comment - It is always difficult to find a venue that can handle 30+ boats ... plus the berthing of such varied freeboards / boat styles ... a sigh of relief ran through me after this years .... but it did give rise to a bit of hair-pulling at times !!
Here's to next years ... lets see if we can really "push the boat out" !!!!

Hi Malc, dont worry. Me and Nigel love our banter! He goes on about me wiyth "Vega this, Vega that" and I go on about the lack of sailing, engine on etc. It is all good natured banter, on my part anyway!!!!!! Good to meet you at Yarmouth and at least you didnt smoke as much as Nigel's last crew!!! The photo Nigel posted showed SA actualling leaning, must of been a hurricane on the beam to make her lean with the moveable ballast inside!!

Re: Sails ...... calm down ????

Don't worry, I'm not worried. in fact it would have been leaning even more if my (some say substantial) weight not been on the windward side to take the photo. Nect year I might even get my boat over to the meet, and my boat's 2 foot shorter than SA.

Hi Malc. The more boats teh merrier. I would have loved to bring mine as well but neither Jim or myself fancied single-handing in the forecasted weatehr (and we were right!). Mine only 27' so we can swell the numbers of LOBs (Little Old Boats). Liked the photo of you, Nigel and teh Lifeboat bloke!! Headline news! Cheers
