Fidgebox power consumtion feedback

With this heat wave (around 25degC midday here) and the boat sat on the mooring I have had a chance to accuratly monitor the new fidgebox. Its a Waeco 48L compressor driven fridge/freezer with accurate thermostatic control and digital readout set to 3degC. I have just been using it for lunch stuff and milk while working on the boat so it does get opened a few times and its faily empty so should be a good test. It maintains temp within 1 deg and uses about 18/19 ah/day which sounds pretty good, given how simple they are to install and maintain. I would definatly recomend one for light/mod fridge use and has the option to use as a freezer for long trips. Don't know how power hungry that would be.

Re: Fidgebox power consumtion feedback

Will be interested to see your results. We currently have the fridgebox that came with the boat and it drains the domestic battery within 2 days if we don't have shore power or motor somewhere. We have been considering whether to buy a new fridge unit or whether to just get a Waeco or similar

Re: Fidgebox power consumtion feedback

Hi Roly, that is unrealistic long term.. fill lots of water bottles and fill the fridge to two thirds full. then try it.. open every day (If you live aboard) around half a dozen times to take a bollte out.. rummage and return a non chilled botlle.
That will give you a more realistic figure - expect between 35 and 60 amps a day.
