autohelm ST3000 and Westerly 33

Following on from my question about the Windhunter windvane which seems to be universally derided....... the Westerly I am looking at also has the mountings and electric points for an Autohelm ST3000 which was fitted for the wheel steering, however the fluxgate compass is 'dead' . In any event the ST3000 wouldn't hold a course in any kind of a seaway; what would be the updated, beefed up model which would either fit with the existing mountings etc. or be equally easy to fit?

I dont think they make anything like the 3000 the S1 which is the successor to the 4000mk2 is wheel mounted and would probably do the job.

If you still have the 3000 drive unit you can use this with an ST4000+ (or similar) head unit and fluxgate compass. This solution was recommended to me by a Raymarine person at a boat show many years ago and has worked well for me for several years - in many ways it's the best of both worlds as the 4000 drive units have had their problems.

Support that as I have a 4000 head and a 3000 motor - although I have bought (but yet to install) the 4000 Mk2 drive unit. The 3000 motor works fine in normal conditions but struggles with higher winds and seas - and tends to trip you up moving in the cockpit.
