Ditch the "Royal"
|
|
"Royal" used have a mark of authority. Not so these days. I'm not anti-royalist. But the "Royal" gives an aura of inaccessibilty, frumpiness and irrelevance, which tinges many of the questions here today. It's as though you have a "by royal appointment" splattered across every communication. Can a new name be considered?

Re: Ditch the "Royal"

We did consider changing our name only last year.
The majority view was that although the 'Royal' may alienate a small number of boaters, and likewise 'Yachting', it's not really a major issue. These days, we describe ourselves almost universally as the 'RYA', rather than 'Royal Yachting Association', and that's how most people know us.
We'd rather concentrate on building the RYA 'brand' and - given the experience of Consignia/Royal Mail - don't intend changing our 'full' name simply for the sake of it.
