Preston Ditch Crawler weekend

all welcome, however it would be a severe problem for any sea boats to get to the venue, low bridges being just one hazzard. being canal boats weight on board is not an issue, therefore, there will be lots of serious "drinking tents" in the field venue. i.e. sort's of markee's. the idea is to avoid having to erect one yourself and god forbid, having to take it down the next day, so to socialise and keep moving is a good idea. This Saturday is the day.

Be entertaining and bring your own drink (anyone's home brew is to be very seriously avoided) then there are the "fire's" to keep you warm, always get your deck chair in a good position, i.e. in direct contact with the heat, if anyone blocks your view of the fire. move quick. hell thats why you have a moveable deck chair.

then always seriously plan you route back to your boat. no need to get up early
hell that was a good weekend. well what i remember of it.... ooohh the joy's of boating.

I'l keep u posted with pic's & what actually happens, might be a big shock to the old captain "H".

(I'm
told that there a wicked lot and take no prisoners. Ha Ha they aint met me yet!!!).. They all got tupaware thingies and me with 18 tons of iron.. Hope I've mended the bow thruster..

Deb!

You're not really going to let Haydn loose on that lot are you? He'll be winding them all up about being ditch crawlers and not real boaters, and telling tales of derring do and green water and long stories about exploding bogs and quaint harbours in Ireland where everything went wrong but everyone was very helpfull.

He'll also be gettin uppity with people rafted outside of him, and trying to take the whole raft off and swing it around so he's on the outside - which isn't going to work with long ditch crawlers on narrow canals and rivers - and he'll bust the bow thruster again! - not to mention all the other boats in the vicinity

and for gods sake, don't let him helm while he's got the video camera, I've seen him in action. V scary!

Best bet is lock him in the cabin with ciggies and booze, and let him out when the weekend is over!

They think I'm a thick newby ha ha ha....... There going to try and frighten me...... Got any remidies for tupaware boats passing 18 ton's of iron in narrow canal. It could not cope with MF. It would be blinded first!! But these little jelly mould thingies will get more than they bargained for!!. Now tell me again. Wots the right side to pass on a canal?? Cant be that side can it?? Well I did say that I wos fick.....

Re: Preston Ditch Crawler weekend

Right side to pass on a canal? There isn't one! You go straight down the middle, and stay on the outside of any bend. I know this because I've watched. It's one of the best games of chicken I've seen! Mind you with a big steel lump, you should win - hopefully!

Re: Preston Ditch Crawler weekend

well haydn will certainly this weekend scare my cruising club members to death...

YOU CAN SEE WHY !!! the point of the anchor being in exactly the right place to hole a tupperware freeman met round a blind bend head on (most cruisers are freeman's on my canal, throw back to the ancient past, lovely boats tho) my boat being "wide beam" & high in the water due to the wheelhouse, is i have to admit a scarey sight coming straight at you on the lancaster canal. on the thames its tiny, & looks like somone's tender.

So don't think H needs to worry about passing boats, they will hve driven themselves as fast as they can up the nearest bank. anyway here's to a weekend where i can forsee freeman's bristling with boat hooks in a mad effort to try to fend the 18 ton of iron off them. Ah Ha, they all know "he's a new" captain of Delft, and can't seem to grasp that if there's water on view, its not maybe enough to float a boat on, and certainly not enough to drive an engine or bow thruster (which is now working again, a sheerpin had gone)

deborah on delft. definately nothing to do with Mucky Farter!! & if this continues H either !!!!

You sort him out lass!!
Keep up the commentary on ditch crawling, it's fascinating, and good reading

Good to hear that Haydn is struggling to cope with lack of water, his posts should be suitably sheepish knowing that you are watching <g> OK, I take that back, he'll be posting about a torrent of green water coming down the canal due to a lock failing, and how the green and muddy water came over wheelhouse and fish could be seen through the windows and a F10 was blowing at the time. Are your seat cushions wet yet. Haydn is a specialist in this aspect of boating.
