So whens the new boat appearing then.? |
Can anyone go to this, or is it for sewer rats only? |
All you need to attend is rough idea of which end of the boat is which some charts which have never bin used and remain unopened since 1973 and preferably some even older flares.A healthy disregard of which side of the river you should be on also helps. Unit18 has a years out of date tide table which makes him the only one able to turn up weeks afterwards or several days before and still blame everyone else for not being there. ![]() Ps.If everyone turns up on the same day it will be an considerable improvement on last year. |
Pah and pfft......I bloody well went yesterday....where the hell was everyboby. Damn bad show organising these things and then not even turning up! |
OK, other than the weekend of 17/18 June. I assume that you are talking about somewhere downstream of Rochester Bridge?----Thar be dragons |
"Thar be dragons " I see you have met the wife then. |

Will be nice to see you again Tom.Hope you get boat sorted soon, assume from your comment that new boat is not in UK.Mate of mine has just bought nice boat located in Palma. He is trying to move it to Nice but promised berth there has sort of disappeared.Fred. Mebbe somebody can propose date any suggestions out there. |

Other stuff going on this summer. June 3rd. Medway Barge Match. July 9th Fishermans Court/Admirals Cruise. 21st July.Van Morrison concert in Castle Gardens. |
New boat in the Medway beginning of June, in the Solent for a few weeks before then for sea trials and Yarmouth forum meet
So poss we will see you then mebbe. |
Only just over three weeks before the nights start drawing in! Any more news of the Medway Midsummer meet? We were going to go to the Southend Air Show today, got as far as Garrison Point where the wind was a pretty steady 25knots and gusting up to 40 knots before we decided that the Festival of the Sea at Chatham Historic Dockyard seemed a better option---what a bunch of wimps!!!!. |
I was coming up the estuary towards garrison point when all hell was let loose. Second reef went in as wind topped 30 knots and rain came in sideways. 10 minutes later we shook out reefs and struggled to make 4 knots boat speed. Was up near Gillingham when second lot came through - sails put to bed that time. Think you took the sensible option. |
So come on you Muddy folk, when and where, and I will exercise my right to come through Havengore Bridge and join you all ...... |
Oi, easy Tiger, got my new up to date tide table right here And the new Sturmley Archer chart for the Medway Not that I need it with the Armstrong Imperial "Little Giant" chartplotter recently fitted. So, whats happening on the 3rd? Is it the saily barges, if so will we be able to keep up with them? |
Errr looking at the Wind forecast think it will be the Medway Barge Drift!!!!!!! Anybody got any favorites for Medmeet. How about the 28th ?????? |
Should be fine with that. Where? |
How about Stangate Creek? |
Err.......Best to be in exotic Sharfleet. Should protect us a bit from the "never fails to appear August east wind with a dash of drizzle" .
So, can we say 24th June in Sharfleet? YBW Burgees a fluttering? Its like pulling teeth round 'ere ![]() Other than that, I might have to do something in the garden...... |
You can say whatever you like, but we will all turn up at the wrong place at the wrong time! Saw Fred fishing off the front of his boat in a comfy chair about two feet from a wreck on Sunday and we said we would meet him on Saturday! ![]() Had the first dip of the year at Sharfleet, must say I must have looked impressive as I cut through the water going an ever deeper shade of blue. 24th sounds fine to me, just need to check on the tides. |
Err.. or the 28th
Oh yes, the 28th. Hmm. I bet I run aground having read the wrong tide table too. Ho hum.
as i have got leg probs with the boat, and cannot get her lifted till the 15th, will proberly miss but will make mrf thanks alec for saturday |
So thats the 28th then.HW is at around 16.00.PMT.Just need some decent weather! Dunno if Mainship has bought a boat yet or not ? |
Dusted off the factor 2 sun repellent and ready to go! So is that three of us then? What a magnificent gathering! Look forward to the usual "where are you" on the wireless, and remember Jim if by some terrible coincidence we all meet up Albert has had his operation so you don't need cricket pads. |
Make it four---I'm on, but not if it's p**s poor weather. |
Tush, poor weather? Its the Med. Normally excused shorts due to frightening the women but put them on anyway last Sunday and burnt the tops off my knees. That'll teach me. |
so this is now the bank holiday w/end hopefully boat repaired by then so will come good chance to test new winters raincoats |
Well he fooled me as well, I noticed Fred coming back from his expedition to explore the upper reaches of the Medway and enquired as to what month we were meeting up as according to my "Starlight, the best Chinese food in Cuxton" calender the 28th was a Wednesday. After looking at me with complete disdain he informed me it was August the 28th. Hands up who else he tricked! Thats Fred, right at the back.
Will somebody tell UNIT18 that he needs to turn left when leaving his berth and as a helpful clue, the river will get wider if he goes in the correct direction. Also if he sees any X channel ferries he needs to turn round. |
Is anyone actually going to turn up at Sharfleet Creek this Saturday/Sunday? And if so what time? |
so unit 18 was right it is this w/end ????? |
Visitor Warning! Full Circle coming in from the North, be there a bit after High Tide, as I have to bump across the Broomway from Havengore. Will be staying overnight...... |
Look forward to seeing you in Sharfleet tomorrow afternoon |
OK the state of play so far is thus.................. Oldgit in rather scruffy P33 will be around on Sat and/or Sunday in order to catch several of the large bass he tried running over last week, but possibly not UNIT18 who does not know what day of the week it is anyway and is claiming he has got to work.Fullcircle thinks he can find his way across the wake left by GCI on his way to Burham.................... The highly rated not to be missed summer meet will take place on 28th of August(a bank holiday)if anybody can remember where it is or what day its on etc etc Oldgits long range weather seaweed states it will be hot and sunny all day although his pine cone indicates F10 and light snow. |
Full Circle defeated by the Military........ Full Circle steaming towards the Middleway and Havengore Bridge about 1.5 hours before HW. Good idea, give them a call on VHF. Shoe Bridge? Yep? Open? Yep, 10 til 2. Good wee are coming in. How much do you draw? 1.1m ooooohhh, we aint got much water, its the high pressure see? but you will have shortly? couldn't recommend it B@gger Ok, thanks we will try again soon 15 minutes later: Thames Coastguard Securite: Havengore Bridge out of action until further notice. Securite ends. Coincidence? You decide Sorry to have missed you all, we retreated to Hullbridge, anchored up for the night, and went to the Upriver Regatta today, lovely time. |
Had a look round the boats moored in Sharfleet Creek around 5:00pm on the Saturday afternoon---couldn't see any forum members boats so decided to drop the hook about half way down Stangate (much better views of the wildlife) A cracking night, kept awake solely by the ducks and geese. On the Sunday morning we battled against a storm force zero on our way back to Chatham. It was hell, at one stage the winds were gusting up to four knots. I seem to remember one of the posters pointing out that everyone would would get the wrong place, date and time so it came as no great suprise to me---ah well another time perhaps. |
Are well had by that time caught both my ginourmous fish and gone home and at least Fullcircles excuse has a vague air of non fib about it.Say 9 out of ten.Better than most of the stuff Unit18 dribbles out. |
Now just a minute matey, I was out and about performing heroic feats of daring do in the rib. A yacht couldn't get off the trots at Upnor so we nudged the bow out for him, unfortunately when he let go of the line it almost garroted Mrs Unit 18! She then claimed she was cold so we had to return to our superior moorings. Didn't see you skulking about anywhere though. |
Was hanging on the commercial bouy, was either that or drop anchor with all that tiresome heaving up etc afterwards of wet mucky chain. At Folly all day and do not remember any small dogs called Albert going past in ribs....... Did anybody wishper it yet that it will be a very pleasant 31C down ere in the south and er very cold very wet and very rainy up north of Watford.Am trying to persuade new owner of nice new Birchwood residing in Chatham Marina to join the usual suspects up at river festival, but he is expressing concerns about his radar arch.Offered help in the chainsaw dept as normal. |
Doubt he'll go Fred if he saw it last year.
Naa .....Wrong picture.Thats the bunch up at Rochester Cruising Club. They organise the Admirals cruise more properly known as the fishermans court.Happening next Sunday as it happens.Always a delight to see all the blazers and fried egg on display on the bridge of the RCC commodores Trader. |
Aha, we have a letter allowing us to salute if we felt the need! |
Only posted this to keep the Falmouth bunch underneath the Medway Mafia. |
Foulmouth know your place! Once spent 6 months there on board a mothballed BP Tanker, we leaped off that one a few times and had some spectacular bellyflops! Err... are we sort of meeting up in August sometime Fred? |
What a good idea.Mebbe we could all get together up some creek or other and............................... |
What on the same day......at the same time........same place..........that would be something! |
good call Tom |
Blimey Fred, we haven't had Christmas yet! Barry |
No that must have been it on Sunday, we were all within a mile of each other not knowing anyone else was there. I love it when a plan comes together. |
So wrong date and five different locations.Another roaring success then. Just out of interest it rumoured that there will be fireworks at Dockyard on 21st, Oct. Free firework displays are always of interest to the OG wallet.. |
Tell me more Fred, if the tides right I could drift down there and dangle off a buoy. |
Is that an invite on to your boat with free drinks? to watch the fireworks offcourse. Tom |
This was taken at Ramsgit when it was Freds turn to pay. |
Ha Ha ha...O how we laughed. According to the dockyard related website, the Trafalgar day do was such a success, that they have planned another do on 21st OCT.. Have gleaned this from assorted websites but have NOT seen anything in press etc, which seems bit odd. We normally go to the pub in upper (the of which escapes me)Upnor high street and watch from there.Think it started about 9.30pm last year. |
Not out fishing on Sunday Fred? We burbled past in a Profile 33 and noted that Sarah T was sitting there, unless of course you had already landed a magnificent catch on Saturday. We did however see someone get stopped by a police rib near Upnor for speeding, they must have spent at least ten minutes on board. |
Nah was out doing at least 40 knots at half throttle the other day as all proper forumites do and port temp went a bit high. Have extracted heat exchanger core and the internal freshwater bit is full of s**t. Tried and failed to dislodge muck with reverse flush etc etc.Have sent it over to Sercks in Maidstone for them to stick in their acid tank to dissolve 30 years of goo................... |
Looking to go round to Ramsgit a week on Friday (7th) High tide at about 1ish if you fancy it. Might need additional string underwear if it turns nippy though. |
Decisions Decisions.Difficult one this. Can either come round to Ramesesgate with thee or nip down to Cala D.or on my mates Fairline T43 for an all expences paid freebie. Hmmm..........tricky..... Flying out on Sat pm
Git! We aint goin anyhow. F5 from the west, ok for us but we were showing the way for a Profile which makes about 6 knots so would'nt be very comfortable! |
Anybody fancy a meet up somewhere during the summer 2007 .......Please see previous 99 posts etc.......................
I promise to try and get through the Havengore unsuccessfully....again.
Blimey .....that makes over two of us now .....will there be enough room.? |
just waiting for me legs to be refitted so hopefully count me in |
What about the one's on the boat Warren? ![]() Steady Fred, if you start making arrangements this early we might actually meet up.....and then what would we do eh? All floating there not knowing what to say or where to look, and without enough cake on board as the last thing we expected was to be there as part of the midsummer meet. Never fear, I'll consult my "Starlight, best Chinese food in Cuxton" nautical almanac for a favourable tide. |
hi alec fingers crossed legs back on couple of weeks time then lift engine replace some part clean engine bay then polish boat and back in for easter , otherwise i wont be happy. were follow you on this meeting so atleast we can say we were there, what year is this meet ?? |
Follow me? Wonder where we'll end up, every trip is a voyage of discovery. If we bump into any forumites I apologise in advance (if we see Fred just agree that he has indeed caught some marvellous fish, although you won't get to see them) and ignore all the eggy stains down his jumper. |
Its okay, I've consulted the almanac and July has a picture of a Pagoda so that would be the obvious month to meet up. |
That page with the Pagoda, was that the one at the bottom of Alberts poo tray last time I came to visit. If it was that may not be a Pagoda you are looking at! Anyway where is this "Stangate Creek" and will I need a full set of waypoints n stuff to enter into my state of the art navigation equipment in order to find it. Ps Is there a Marina with shops and a chandlery nearby ! PPs.Should I hire an 8 or 10 man liferaft just in case we have to abandon ship half way there. PPPs do you think we should campaign(outside the houses of parliament of course)for a big gate to be built at Sheerness to keep the water in and therebye do away with all this tiresome business of "tides" and such like |
Cheryl's happy because they have put giant hairdryers on the Kentish Flats for when we journey to the channel and has campaigned tirelessly for the same to be installed for when we go up the east coast, and as you know they have now been approved. I think the sticking point with gates for her would be the colour, Oak Funnel or Misty Buff? Perhaps Mint Sunrise? As for assembling outside the Houses of Parliament perhaps we could arrange it to coincide with the Thames Forum's annual drift down the river, what a mighty confusion of craft that would be. |
Ref Thames protest.Just make sure you wear your Raybans, one stray reflection of sunlight off all that gleaming expensive white glassfibre will blind the careless onlooker for life. Not a problem down here of course where an off colour powdery sort of faded beige is all the rage, along with a nice selection of odd shaped fenders to set the whole thing off. |
Ah yes Fred, we were out on the rib the other weekend and came across a life-ring that had grounded itself on a settee. The ring we kept, as it compliments our other two, unfortunately the settee was the wrong colour. |
You never know I might suprise you? Tom |
Maidstone river Festival on 27/28th July this year.Barge Match on 25th May 2007. Annual Medway forumites Satangate meet.........any day you want as you will be prob on your own. Last years "race"............... |
You never know, I might have a boat by then? Tom |
you said that last year....
Ah, but at least Tom will be easy to spot with a huge column of water coming from his surface drives as he flails his way along the mighty Medway at three knots
For the fishing enthusiasts among us,the river is full of weeny little codling. One boat reported over 100 caught. All were returned. |
How does he know that it wasn't the same one 100 times?

University rowing Race Halling to Rochester Castle 28th May Medway Barge Match 26 May Southend Air show sort of Medwayish 27th/28th May. Admirals Cruise/Fishermans Court 30th of June. Maidstone River Festival. MRF |
Ah, now see, I followed the link and the rowing race appears to be on another day Fred. "Saturday the 26th May 2007 sees the first ever boat race between the Universities of Greenwich, Kent and Canterbury" Wanna borrow my calender?
Wanna borrow my calender? Think it was your "calander" we was using
Just got a new one this year so hoping we'll be alright.
Ho Ho ho the olde ones are always the beste |
Fred, fancy meeting up this weekend if your assorted bits of scrap masquerading as outdrives can propel your gentleman's motor yacht as far as Sharfleet. I'll see if I can conjure up some more Unit 18 weather. |
As I have only just read you post, and the outdrives on my time machine are also broke,do not think we can make it .If can get them fixed can meet you there sometime during 1983 if that is any good.
We are off to the Essex Riviera over the bank holibobs weekend Fred, fancy it? That is if you have figured out how to propel your luxury motor yacht, I heard shafts are a good idea as they save a load of messing about with lots of gears and ting.
I can make it soon at 1989? Tom |
This is very worrying, at first it was missing each other by days now its years apart and worse still the folks without a time machine are really knackered. If the Thames has got a classic boat rally at Henley how come we don't have a classic boat rally on the Medway then we can pretend that we have all kept our boats looking old and "original" on purpose. |
Surprised you didn't know about the Medway Classic meet Alan? Here's a piccy from last years event. ![]() Oh yes, I think Fred secretly wishes he was a Time Lord, perhaps he could be Doctor Why. |
I am in 1989 ! Good boats , Good music etc etc.... |
That looks like the view at low tide. If we could all meet in 1975 not only would our cash go a long way but my clothes would be back in fashion, also my boat would only be 30 years old and the rot wouldn't have started by then. Where do I get the plans for the time machine? Drat just realised the GPS won't work as the satalights weren't up then....no chance of finding the way down river without them..... does you Starlight colender go back that far? |
I know its sad to say that overheard recent comment...I like those flares on the bow .....was a comment about my laundry not the shape of the boat. If its a bit nippy of course there are the heavy weight Harris Tweeds with Norfolk jacket and SENSIBLE shoes.
I'm sure I can see the RCC pennant on one of those.
Oh come now Alan, I saw you at the Cuxton big night out.
Its true I often have my hands in my pockets but its only because my braces are away being overhauled. |
"All you need to attend is rough idea of which end of the boat is which some charts which have never bin used and remain unopened since 1973 and preferably some even older flares.A healthy disregard of which side of the river you should be on also helps. Ps.If everyone turns up on the same day it will be an considerable improvement on last year. " In the interests of speed have cut and pasted the above from 2006 Any takers, the usual caveats apply etc etc
Well we both made it to the last one at Burnham Fred, don't understand why the rest didn't show? |
Burnham!!!!!!! I thought you said Burham.........did wonder where we were going but thought it best to just follow and say nothing and stick to the waypoints you sent me. Sigh. |
Say nothing! That would be a [--word removed--] first.
You got that radar sorted yet?........ |
Yep, all fine and dandy.....although it does look a little...err....more discreet. |
Wonder how long it will be before Unit18 gets bored and comes down here in a desparate attempt to post something. |
Not too long! Just back from the dentist and saw that you had been here you little scamp! |
Boat and jetty still attached to the shore then! |
Yep, the sticks held. So you are off to foreign climes for a festive grumble then, lots of speaking in tongues and strange rituals. Whens the next Medway "Where is everyone, bloody typical, they've all got it wrong again" meet. |
