Re: Midsummer Medway Meet.

All you need to attend is rough idea of which end of the boat is which some charts which have never bin used and remain unopened since 1973 and preferably some even older flares.A healthy disregard of which side of the river you should be on also helps.
Unit18 has a years out of date tide table which makes him the only one able to turn up weeks afterwards or several days before and still blame everyone else for not being there.
Ps.If everyone turns up on the same day it will be an considerable improvement on last year.

Only just over three weeks before the nights start drawing in! Any more news of the Medway Midsummer meet? We were going to go to the Southend Air Show today, got as far as Garrison Point where the wind was a pretty steady 25knots and gusting up to 40 knots before we decided that the Festival of the Sea at Chatham Historic Dockyard seemed a better option---what a bunch of wimps!!!!.

Re: Midsummer Medway Meet.

I was coming up the estuary towards garrison point when all hell was let loose. Second reef went in as wind topped 30 knots and rain came in sideways. 10 minutes later we shook out reefs and struggled to make 4 knots boat speed. Was up near Gillingham when second lot came through - sails put to bed that time. Think you took the sensible option.

Had a look round the boats moored in Sharfleet Creek around 5:00pm on the Saturday afternoon---couldn't see any forum members boats so decided to drop the hook about half way down Stangate (much better views of the wildlife) A cracking night, kept awake solely by the ducks and geese. On the Sunday morning we battled against a storm force zero on our way back to Chatham. It was hell, at one stage the winds were gusting up to four knots.
I seem to remember one of the posters pointing out that everyone would would get the wrong place, date and time so it came as no great suprise to me---ah well another time perhaps.

I think the sticking point with gates for her would be the colour, Oak Funnel or Misty Buff? Perhaps Mint Sunrise?
As for assembling outside the Houses of Parliament perhaps we could arrange it to coincide with the Thames Forum's annual drift down the river, what a mighty confusion of craft that would be.

Re: Medway 2007

Surprised you didn't know about the Medway Classic meet Alan?
Here's a piccy from last years event.

Oh yes, I think Fred secretly wishes he was a Time Lord, perhaps he could be Doctor Why.

Re: Medway 2007

That looks like the view at low tide. If we could all meet in 1975 not only would our cash go a long way but my clothes would be back in fashion, also my boat would only be 30 years old and the rot wouldn't have started by then.
Where do I get the plans for the time machine?
Drat just realised the GPS won't work as the satalights weren't up then....no chance of finding the way down river without them..... does you Starlight colender go back that far?

Re: Medway 2007

I know its sad to say that overheard recent comment...I like those flares on the bow .....was a comment about my laundry not the shape of the boat.
If its a bit nippy of course there are the heavy weight Harris Tweeds with Norfolk jacket and SENSIBLE shoes.

I'm sure I can see the RCC pennant on one of those.

Its true I often have my hands in my pockets but its only because my braces are away being overhauled.

Midsummer Medway Meet. ..........2007 the return

"All you need to attend is rough idea of which end of the boat is which some charts which have never bin used and remain unopened since 1973 and preferably some even older flares.A healthy disregard of which side of the river you should be on also helps.
Unit18 has a years out of date tide table which makes him the only one able to turn up weeks afterwards or several days before and still blame everyone else for not being there.
Ps.If everyone turns up on the same day it will be an considerable improvement on last year. "

In the interests of speed have cut and pasted the above from 2006
Any takers, the usual caveats apply etc etc

Wonder how long it will be before Unit18 gets bored and comes down here in a desparate attempt to post something.

Yep, the sticks held.
So you are off to foreign climes for a festive grumble then, lots of speaking in tongues and strange rituals.
Whens the next Medway "Where is everyone, bloody typical, they've all got it wrong again" meet.
