Re: Perpetual quiz B.C. (19)

A clue would perhaps be useful here. You are facing west in Devon, and if you have been there the red bin on the right should offer a clue.

Re: Perpetual quiz B.C. (19)

Ah yes sorry all. New to the quiz. Far too tricky. Erm a clue. If you look to the left, south, from where the pic is taken you would see the only place in the country with an exclamation mark as part of its name.

Westward Ho! is south of where this picture was taken, so we have a west facing beach north of Westward Ho!.

Saunton Sand ?

Re your neck of the woods after having a lifting keel boat for 9 years which would have been ideal for exploring the Taw /Torridge Estuary we never got around to it,we now have a long keeler with nearly 4 ft draught. I know theres a deep water mooring off Appledore,Are there any other places suitable for our new boat either to settle in soft mud or lean against something?

Cigar Graham? :-)
Spot on.
The red bins line the first couple of hundred yards down the beach. They are quite obvious, but I have spent many, many days there so maybe they have made their presence felt on my sub-conscious.
Next time it is my turn I'll try and do slightly better

Re: Perpetual quiz B.C. (19)

Apologies Graham, I missed the second part of your past post. It is actually really tricky here with a long keeler. I had my old Apache 29 (Folkboaty type) in watermouth, and unless she was merrily breaking her legs leaving or rising off the ground, she was either off elsewhere or ashore. As you say there is Appledore for staying afloat, but that's about it. Everywhere else I can think of is either hard sand/slightly muddy, or a wall. Bideford is a nice dry out, as is Ilfracombe, as you know, but it is not the best place to keep a boat. I can't think of any soft deep mud at all. Anyone?

Re: Perpetual quiz B.C. (19)

I edited to add the last bit probably after you read it.I wish we had explored the Taw and Torridge while we had the lifting keel ,

Next question is where would you find a splodge of white paint on the cliff indicating where to anchor?

Re: Perpetual quiz B.C. (19)

Climbing was great - we went on the "Lost World Expedition", aka "The Indiana Jones Run", on Saturday. This is a huge circuit through the Lanberis slate quarries comprising abseils, a climb, various tunnels and ledges, and some scary climbing on ancient iron ladders and chains. The midair transfer from the bottom of one ladder, which was missing most of its brackets, onto another going in a different direction, was particularly exciting with 300' of air below

This was followed by the rugby in a pub (England ) in Llanberis, and then we watched the start of some other game, but I had to leave after shouting "Allez les Bleus". Not sure why

Sunday was up the north ridge of Tryfan, then Bristly Ridge onto the Glyders, and down the Devil's Kitchen. My legs are sore

Gorgeous drive down the A470 this morning

It is at CBYC, owned by either Roy Ackerman or Dave Hurst, and it was sometime in the early 70's

Unless there is another Eureka somewhere around here?

The owner was big J___ G_______. No idea where it is now but your moving the goal posts now so Im claiming that one. Damo believe it or not there are two Eurekas .The one at CBYC is wood the one in the pic is a GRP potting boat convertyed for sea angling.

so the next question is , look at this picture and tell me how many Islands you can see in it?

My answer would be two, the Holms. I guess that is Barry harbour and the one on the right is the English coast.
