BC boats for sale.

As a number of people will already know, I am looking for a boat to replace my now sold Etap. Does anyone know any for sale in the BC? Yes Andy, I know about yours! I am looking for a bilge keeler around 28 to 34 feet. A Westerly, Moody or Colvic would be good or I will consider others. I would like an aft cabin, preferably accessed directly from the saloon.

Re: BC boats for sale.

Why dont you try Boatshed Wales? they have a few Westerlys on their books, either them or one of the many brokers in this neck of the woods.

Could be worth looking further afield. I know boat transport by road isnt cheap but if you find the ideal boat on the south or East Coast it could be a way forward.

I sincerely hope that is a joke, I hate the thought of 'needing' to sell! Also a Griffin is a little too small for me.

I have looked at most sites, I just thought there may be some I have missed.

I will look further afield later, I just thought I should look locally first.

Is that the steel boat in the corner near yours? If so I have looked and deciided it would be a little slower than most of the ones I have in mind. I would love a metal boat, steel or aluminium but they seem just that bit too slow for good passage making.

ONly if over built or too short (for steel).

Well "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" so I would never air my views on such things. I have to admit that was one reason fo walking away. One reason for my post here was to try to avoid broker costs as I thought someone may know an owner who is selling.

Yes we all want to avoid broker charges but you can take this into account in the offer you make, there are as you know lots of the boats in your catargory on brokers books in this area, and it being a buyers market ,worth a try i thought.

Allan, I know it's not in the BC but I've just spent 2 days up on Anglesey with work and ended up in a hotel right by Dickies in Bangor. Had a wander round the yard on Monday night and it's literally festooned with yachts for sale and I do recall seeing the types you mentioned (I'm no yachtie though so I just recall the names from the for sale stickers). Might be worth a call / visit.

For anyone interested in selling or buying the B.C.Y.A. has free boat adverts on its website. There are not many at the moment but with the publicity from this site there might be some more in the future.

Re: BC boats for sale.

I've also noticed that N.Wales seems to have a larger choice of boats for sale than S.Wales (don't know why this should be...). You may have to look at further afield. The cost of road transport for the boat is not really that high in the grand scheme of things. However, what is annoying (and expensive) is all the time you have to spend driving hundreds of miles to view what turns out to be a load of junk! For that reason I'd try to keep as close to home as you can, but I was surprised last year what little choice there was. I think the BCYA idea of having a For Sale section is a good one...also a Boats Wanted section would be good. There must be many who'd consider selling if they thought there was a potential buyer. Good luck...

Re: BC boats for sale.

Yes, I have seen a few up in North Wales. I will be looking up there in the near future. I really don't have too much problem with buying elsewhere and would consider sailing it from places between Portsmouth and North Wales. I just thought I would try locally first, in particular as the boat may be known to people I know. I have been told about a Westerley in Pembrokeshire, but I don't know any other details.

Re: BC boats for sale.

May be worth writing to all the local Yachtclubs with a wanted add for them to put on their notice board. Someone who is thinking of selling and hasnt even advertised yet may respond. We sold a boat like that once to a guy who only lived a couple of miles from us.

Good idea Graham, thanks. I had interest from places as far away as Northumberland and Ireland for my boat then sold it to a fellow CYC member.

Re: BC boats for sale.

I noticed on a post in another forum last night, that Waltons were putting boats up on ebay - might be a bargain there?
