Re: Bristol Channel Quiz 23

You got it. The English and Welsh grounds Safe Water buoy and the forum Burgee based on English and Welsh flags.

Hoping to have the one fluttering in the breeze as I pass the other one on Tuesday on the way to Portishead.

Re: Bristol Channel Quiz 23

OK, how many cranes are there on the quay side outside Bristol's (now closed for refurb) Industrial Museum?
They are on Princes Wharf alongside the Balmoral.
I'm refering to the old dock cranes not the new tower crane that is part of the building works.

There are 4 on tracks by the museum, and another one further down towards the Buttery (the one with the curved jib)

I have a recollection that there is a crane on a railway wagon. Can anyone confirm that?

What can often be seen on the BC, which was named after a Sir Walter Scott novel (which in turn was named after the ruins of the first Cistercian monastery in Britain)??

Crane is fixed to the wharf.

The railway thing comes from the fact its Steam Powered. At least I think it is.

So you were on the right track...

They used to have it running every now and then. Dont know if it still works.

Re: Bristol Channel Quiz 23

Sorry Damo... racked my brain and can't think of one. Will let you have my turn. I dont get to see much of the BC, just the little bit of the Gloucester Sharpness Canal that flows past as I chip away at the fibreglass sheathing of Esliina. 80 percent gone and giving better picture of her problems. Re-launch target June 2010.

It looks like some sort of rocket launch taken from above. But I can't recall any stories of that in the BC area.

Its a navigation beacon, but I dont know where it is.

I guess the four dots are mountings for the cables that hold it up.

It must be in the water, not far from land.

sorry about that, yes you were right it was just after armistice day and the poppys were still there, and if you look there is a wet spot just under the eye which i thought was rather poignant

I think the whole statue is poignant. From the one side it just looks like a piece of ship wreckage then on the other side the human face.Kind of brings home the human cost of war to me.

Because the ground has been contaminated a long time ago.

Just off of Anchor road in Bristol

Yes, it's the old gasworks, and a vast amount of contaminated earth has had to be removed in order that development can start.

Quite right.

The contamination was the result of converting whale oil to gas.
