A moment of madness...
|
...no doubt to be followed by a long period of reflection. I am just about to become the owner of a Folkboat slightly older than myself. 'Border Maid' is due to leave Blyth on Saturday to head for her new home (for the time being anyway) in the Firth of Forth. I will be almost constantly asking for advice and reassurance so just tell me if I am being boring.

I can remember my Dad's boat leaving Blyth to go to the Forth. That was in 1972. I wasn't allowed off school for the delivery trip.
Sailed up to Granton. Pickfords across to Princes's Dock in Glasgow and down the Clyde to her mooring at Cardwell Bay. Bit different from what we were used to - a 12' 6" McKays dinghy!

Did you know there is a Folkboat Association? It used to be run by Peter Ament from yarmouth, IOW. Very helpful when I was once thinking of buying a Folkboat.

Yes, I haven't joined up yet though. Thanks for the welcome people. The boat is 'Border Maid', clinker mahogany on oak, built Woodnutts St Helens in 1948. She was originally built as a true Nordic Folkboat but had a very neat doghouse added in the 1960s. I am looking forward to getting to know her.

Nice thought thanks, couldn't get the link to open but maybe it was just busy, I'll try again later. She may not have been launched at all at Bembridge; apparently she came to Newcastle in 1948 by train and has been based at Blyth ever since.

Nice choice!
Sounds like you have much less work to do on yours than i have on mine.:)
