Blakes Deck 'coating'
|
|
Having half-finished painting the decks and used up my dwindling store of Blacks Deck Paint Warm Cream, I went off to buy some more.
"Oh, no they stopped making that 2 years ago". Not just the colour, the paint: you now get 'deck coating' which is thinner and not to be had in 'warm cream'.
So I seek alternatives: anyone tried this? http://www.protectakote.co.uk/marine.htm
Said to be suitable for Dredge support vessels so it should do for a Finesse!

What's wrong with international "Interdeck"? They do that in a nice "warm" cream colour?

Use Sandtex masonry paint. Its a similar colour, goes on much easier, resists wear better and is around 1/4 the price per litre. I won't be going back to 'marine' deckpaints any time soon.

International stopped making all the nice, soft-coloured deck paints that suited traditional boats about the time they stopped making Interstain mahogany. Still haven't found any! OF

I have been using textured masonry paints for some years - invariably vastly better than the 'marine' grade rubbish. Goes on much easier, stays put, better choice of colours, looks better, nicer to walk or sit on with bare feet etc.... and a fraction of the cost.

When Using Sandtex, What Primer Do You Use?

Re: Blakes Deck 'coating'

Just looked at the Sandtex site, and the "mid stone" looks close to a weathered teak finish, but needs a bit of warming. What other acrylic paints could I mix with sandtex to alter the shading? Or should I ask Sandtex?

Interdeck 'beige' is quite a trad colour, and looks better than the old cream IMHO. Never mind the name, the colour becomes more attractive as I get older !!

Good quality wood primer on wooden decks. On the one plastic boat I used it on it went directly over existing paint after a good scrub. Raw GRP would probably need a GRP primer of some sort.

Can you get it in Marks and Sparks? If not it can't be proper beige.
