keel bolts

On one of our keel bolts the nut has rusted and started to brake up, all the others look good. The keel bolt is made of iron and is about 20 years old we believe. Do you think we should try x-raying the bolts to check if they are sound, and try to replace the nut as taking it out will be a pain? If x-raying is a good idea any thoughts to where I might get it done.

Re: keel bolts

I'd want to draw that bolt and have a look at it.

Although of course that might be a right pain, what is the cost of xray as opposed to pulling one out?

Re: keel bolt survey by x-ray. Try Technical Inspection Services (UK) LTD Tel no 01275 871130. They did my keel bolts in Gosport in 2004.
