what outboard for small wooden lugsai boat?

I am trying to decide on the best lightweight outboard as an auxiliary for a 15ft lugsail boat - beamy and strongly built - to use in and around Falmouth harbour and the Fal.

There is a Yamaha 3.5 4-stroke that is often featured in tests of the 2.3 to 3 hp smallest 4 strokes. I am not sure whether any 2.5 hp units would be good enough.

If anyone has relevant advice, experience, knowledge or prejudice please share it with me.

That sounds good to me. You aren't going to be water-skiing behind that dinghy, so 3.5 hp would plenty.

I use that engine on a 14.5' lune pilot, and it is fine for my purposes powerwise, although I could probably do with the longsahft, rather than the shortshaft which came with the boat.
