i dont think I have ever heard of such a small boat built in steel.Could you give us some details of her construction,eg how thick are the hull plates etc? As to wether she is a classic boat ,how long is a piece of string? She has survived nearly 40 years and silhouettes have many recorded epic voyages to their credit. |

as far as i can tell without using veriers etc i would think she has 1/8th steel plates with a lot of angle iron frames and stringers, and steel bulkheads ,she has been built to a very high standard of engineering ,and very little evidence of rust pitting which i find incredible ,must have been very very well looked after over the years ,apparently there where several constucted in steel ,but this seems to be the onlty known surviver |

Try posting a question to the Roach Sailing association here. Roach Sailing Assoc They have been around a long time, and have a good knowledge of these sort of things, especially as unusual as a steel Silhouette. There are quite a few round here ( I live near the Roach, 4 miles from Rochford). Sorry, but this one is a bit before my time. Good Luck Jim |

There is a lot of nonsense talked about what is an isn't a classic boat. If she's a classic in your eyes then a classic she is. |
