Hi all! This is my first post & I didn't mean to join this forum, as I'm usually a member on the Horse & Hound forum. However, I can't log-on to the H&H forum and the IPC H&H login page shows a button inviting me to delete Cookies at ybw.com! ![]() The problem is that I can't click the cursor into a text box on H&H, but I had no problems logging in here, creating an account and making a post from my laptop. ![]() I have emailed IPC help who have said the problem is with my Internet security settings Why, oh why then, is it OK for one IPC forum & not for another? My control panel settings don't adjust themselves according to the webpage I'm looking at. ![]() Has anyone else had a problem like this or have any ideas what I can do to get back onto the Horse & Hound forum? Confused of Oxford... possibly looking forward to a long night spent chatting about boats!

Welcome, Perhaps we should explain about BrendanS. The fastest Googler in the West, fixes computer probs, drives a 4x4, and merciless if you haven't read, marked, learned, and inwardly digested every post in sequence. The rest of us are only a fraction madder than the horse crowd (and I speak as the prime sponsor of a number of nags, horse trailers, and dung removal systems) |

Hello BrendanS, I can go to the Horse & Hound forum link OK as a 'lurker' and see posts. I can't login or see how many new replies have been added to a thread. I can't reply to any posts or take part in any voting polls either.

Thanks for your welcome sarabande ![]() Like I said in my OP I may well stick around to read some threads here if I can't get back onto HHO ![]() btw I like the icon. We don't have that one on HHO yet

I've sent you a pm. Can you try logging into H&H using the username and password in the pm Also, if you know how to manually delete cookies, can you remove all the horse and hound cookies on your computer |
OK, that didn't work, as you can't actually type in the text boxes to enter username and password. Have you removed all H&H cookies. When did the problem start. Today? Have you changed anything on your computer prior to the problem starting. Have you tried logging on using another browser like Firefox? |

Thankies...I've replied to your PM. It didn't work ![]() I deleted all cookies on the user login page...hence me being logged out now However, I haven't deleted cookies on Internet Tools recently yet.
ok, do a delete on IE tools, then reboot computer, and try again. |

OK, to fill in some background... I think I deleted all HHO cookies although the button said YBW (I believe it's because you're an IPC sister site). I have used H&H forum for 2yrs+ without problems. At Christmas I changed from Norton to McAfee antivirus...HHO worked well for 6wks. Last weekend I had to download McAfee from the Internet (as I kept getting pop-ups from McAfee saying I wasn't protected). ![]() Since then I've had trouble using H&H with IE at home. I managed to log-on at work, so IPC help said it must be to do with my Security settings. I lowered these and could log-in, but not post a reply on H&H forum. Then later that same evening, it logged me out unexpectedly. Now I can't even log-in again & seeing as I can post on other Internet forums including this IPC site I'm totally befuddled!

Ah, now we are getting somewhere. McAfee is blocking you on that site. Try turning off McAfee and see what happens. Even better, uninstall it completely and load an decent antivirus such as Avast (it's free) |
Hmmm... I shouldn't have bought McAfee again! Thanks for your help, I'll go away and see what I can do...it's sooooooo annoying that McAfee have done this to me - AARRGGHHH...I'll let you know how I get on, but will probably not find out until tomorrow now.

you are not the only one having problems with recent McAfee updates. I've just done a quick search, and many people are complaining about innocous sites being blocked. Don't know which version of McAfee you have, but have a look at the workaround on this thread http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.p...c7abb82394e22d6 |

I am running McAfee and have to say I haven't had any problems accessing sites. |
Depends what McAfee product you are running, and what settings you have. Not everyone will be affected, but there are plenty that are having problems |

Got the full works, including: Virus scan Personal firewall plus Privacy service Spamkiller I have it set to tight security, and touch wood, I haven't had any problems yet. I have got other free adware/spyware etc programs that I occassionally run aswell. |
well if you don't have a problem, don't change anything. |
Oh yes good advice..... "if it aint broke, don't fix it" I have just downloaded a copy of avast though - McAfee expires in March, and I hadn't realised there was a full antivirus program available for free - thanks. |

Oh Cool Beans & many thanks BrendanS! That's fixed it...well not permanantly cos I keep getting a message "Your computer is not fully protected. Click here to check your protection status and make changes." But at least I can log-in to Horse and Hound again. ![]() I owe you a beer if you're ever land-locked in Oxfordshire!

Glad you got it sorted! |

I would only disable the AntiVirus software when specifically logging on to this website.... you don't want to be unprotected all the time, do you? |
Brendan, I see you are still advocating AVAST. I have been quite happy with it for a long time, but for some months have given AVG a go as it seems to get better reviews in the mags. Again quite happy. Do you have any opinions on relative merits? Vic |

Both are fine. |

Quote: Spoke too soon..... it updated at the weekend with a new version of the software. Now its creating backup copies of every email sent and received and storing them in C:\ as very small files. What a PITA!!! I don't need it to do this, I backup emails myself.... and McAfee's response - it cannot be changed! |
remove it, and put in a decent AV |
It expires in exactly 1 months time, so am thinking twice about renewing. Its only on there now because the PC came with a 90 day version. What would you recommend? From reading above, and looking on the websites, I see Avast looks to be a fairly comprehensive program, whereas AVG isn't quite so comprehensive (as free AV software go). Is it worth paying for one, or using one of those? Out of curiosity, what are you running? |
I run several on different computers. This one is running Avast. Nod32 is amongst the best if you want to pay. You also need spyware software, so Microsoft Defender and Ad-aware are a good start. Also a firewall, so zonealarm or kerio |
