Exclamations (!) in middle of Words / Backspace / Delete

I notice very many instances of (!) marks in the middle of words, obviously where someone has used either the backspace or delete key to correct something.

Now, here's the interesting point: my own posts, when I receive them back as 'Reply to a Favorite Topic', also contain this 'feature'. However, when I view the same posts on the forum itself, mine appear quite normally. Why does this not apply to everyone?

I must be missing something. Why should correcting mistake lead to an exclamation mark appearing. I often get an exclamation mark in place of a number 1 but then it is a shfted 1.

I have made and corrected so many mistakes in this that it is going to be mass of exclamtion marks.

And not one single exclamation mark either in the 'reply to your post' or as I see it on the forum, Vic.

Do you not encounter these spurious (!) marks generally on the forums? Has to be something related to the browsers people are using either for sending or receiving.

Can't say it really bothers me ..... just facinated.

(is it my imagination, or has the fora responsetime improved quite a lot in last few days?).

No I have never noticed any. I'm using IE6 by the way.

Thr forum speed may be a bit better. Usually when things grind to a halt for me it is not the forum at fault as all other sites grind to a halt as well. I leave IE running disconnect (dial-up) and reconnect then everything is OK. Sometimes it is the forum though. Since I don't pay anything to use it I don't complain.

No
Do you have a link to a post where you've seen it happen?

Re: Exclamations (!) in middle of Words / Backspace / Delete

I'm now wondering if it ONLY occures in the emailed 'replies to a favourite post' rather than on the forums themselves (I thought it was both, but admit I could be wrong).

An example: copied from VicS post today as email received:

>>>>>> In an in an ideal wor! ld none of these <<<<<<<

but the post as it appears on the forum is normal:

http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthreaded.php?Cat=0&Number=948117

Same using IE6 or Firefox.

Sounds like you figured the answer.

Probably html code 'hidden characters' which don't translate through to email.

Yep. Seems likely. Didn't realise the hidden characters were transmitted. You learn something useful everyday.

Thanks,

If you are right most posts of mine will have so many exclamation marks that they will be unreadable. Only one correction in this one. Sorry four now
