can anyone recommend good davits

I decided today to put a set of davits on the boat, and looking about there are a few differant ones.

I like the one where your boat is horizontal but feel the engine on the tender may flap about.

So I will have to go for the one that sits sideways.

Thanks

Re: can anyone recommend good davits

Depends how big and heavy the tender is. The main choice is between twin arm davits and snap davits. Twin arm davits range in price from a few hundered quid (Plastimo), to a few thousand quid (Whitall, Simpson). Snap davits seem to be a couple of hundred quid all in, and theres some nifty new ones where you leave the outboard attached and it keep it the right way up. There's also a sort of tilting frame version that you slide up and on to the transom.

Re: can anyone recommend good davits

well I don't know the size of your main boat, but if its big enough i'd go for the Plastimo twin arm davits and keep the outboard light, a 6hp 4 stroke at 25 kgs sounds spot on. Alternatively the snap davits that keeps the outboard attached. My answers are swayed by the fact that I hate putting the outboard on and off with the tender in the water.

How does the snap davits and keeping the outbaord on work then. Does the outbard stay vertical?

Reading the previous posts got me thinking that a sort of swivel mechanism on the dinghy transom would be neat. Have I just invented something?

Re: can anyone recommend good davits

You can already get a swivel for the transom, its been on the forum a couple of times

the transom swivel is exactly how it works, so i'm afraid someone else invented it first

Try the Lodestar website - I think they sell something similar. They also sell a cheaper and possibly better system of dinghy "davit".
