Can't find an ensign ...

.... a good quality sewn 2 yard Cayman Islands ensign in the new post 1999 style, like this :

I believe they are available in SoF but need to buy one in advance, especially as Magnum will be increasing England's carbon footprint along the south/southwest coast next month

Nope. That's the national flag not the ensign. Thanks anyway.

True.

My guess would be if you called them they would be happy to do a red one for you. I have found them very helpful in the past - one day turnaround.

No connection etc.

Good stuff.

Oddly they list 2 different widths for the same length.

Sewn 183x91cm / 72x36in / 2yd
Sewn 183x122cm / 72x48in / 6x4ft

So it's ready next month. Straight down to the Med or will you be hanging around a while?

I'll be hanging around for about 2 weeks. Taking delivery in Guernsey then back to the West Country and then the Solent. The weather better be damn perfect too

Intending to be on a ship to Genoa before the end of June.

Re: Can't find an ensign ...

Flags for sticking out of the back of your boat are a different "aspect ratio" than those for sticking up a flagpole - they fly ahem; perhaps "wear" better in the former?

I don't really, really know; that's my take on it.

If MrFlag can't help in a hurry, perhaps the Ensign Flag Co. could help?

Magnum, don't worry about booking the ship, I'll run her around to the Med for you, I'm getting quite good at these longer trips now?

Re: Can't find an ensign ...

So what size do you think is right for a 72?

Here are the choices.

Sewn 137x69cm / 54x27in / 1.5yd
Sewn 183x91cm / 72x36in / 2yd
Sewn 183x122cm / 72x48in / 6x4ft
Sewn 229x114cm / 90x45in / 2.5yd
Sewn 270x137cm / 108x54in / 3yd
Sewn 366x183cm / 144x72in / 4yd
Sewn 457x229cm / 180x90in / 5yd

I quite fancy the 2.5yd.

Re: Can't find an ensign ...

Get the biggest you think you need and go up a size. till the lowerst part of the flag is an inch above the water when moored. Works for me. I hate the french and dutch always having bigger ensigns than our modest lot.

If its too small it will look sillly obvioulsy, but if it is too big it will make your boat look smaller.

Bloody hell, It'll have to be the size of an articulated lorry to make a Predator 72 look small!

Can you try different sizes on the back with a photo shop image to see what'll look right?

Always thought that 1 inch of ensign for every foot of boat(length of course). So a 2 yard ensign would be about the right size. Ask Sunseeker if they have any spare flags or ensigns around and try a few out to see what looks the best
