Chichester or Gosport

Which is better? Gosport is quite a bit more expensive but I suppose it is closer to the action. Have heard bad things about wash though.

Opinions...

Southsea Marina is even better, and only 5 mins to the Solent rather than 30 for Chi..

OK, but I thought access times were more restictive than those at Chichester?

They are, 6 hours every tide cycle, but the marina staff will move your boat out/in to the outer waiting pontoon for free as many times as you like in a year.

Don't forget to take into consideration the traffic problems of trying to get to and from your boat in Gosport.

traffic isn't normally that bad! as long as you're not trying to get out between 7 and 10 am on a weekday or in between 4-7pm. Weekends and other times its not that bad.

No real problems with wash when I was in Gosport

I lived in Gosport for many years and I never had a problem with traffic as I always went across the ferry. The A32 is always bad no matter what time of day.

Entry and exit at Southsea can be lethal (and we had the scars to prove it ) - which is why they provide a "valet parking service".

Gosport is fine but I think it gets a bit sloppy with wash at times and I think its a drag of a run into Gosport by road.

We have just moved to Chichester and are impressed by the "Nature Park" surroundings. The facilities and staff are excellent and we appear to be surrounded by very nice, helpfull people.

We don't intend to go too far this year so the run up to the marina is not too big an issue for us but it can be very "interesting" when all the little sailing dinghys are racing about.

Lock has long periods of free flow - so not too much of an issue getting in and out but have already seen a couple of boats come to grief on the lock wall
