According to the doctor i need to lose a measley 6 stone - yup.. that is 6 stone... This does cause me some concern.. as after all it is all bought and paid for, so why should i just look to get rid of it - i mean when i think of all the meals out, take aways and dodgy motorway sandwiches and cornish pasties it took to get me here... i can't just get rid of it now can i? What would be better is if you could find a way of removing it and seliing it - at least i get some ROI for it! But - hell why not... lets give it a go... yeah H1 i'm up for it... could do with getting rid of a bit in time for my wedding in 10 weeks! Cheers, C |

Ah - i should say i won't do this one.. some of the guys at work have done it. and whilst it does work, the knock on medical effects seem a little to high a price to pay for me! |

I just look at it as the more I lose, the more kit TCM will let me keep on board We could all have the same diet and discuss what we ate that day, or we could all try different ones. I will go along with anything, perhaps if we get a good response to the suggestion Kim can give us our own forum for a few hours until we all give up I wouldn't mind trying the Atkins, but where do you get the stuff for that one? What knock on medical effects.................Hmmmmmm................Do tell, I'm not about to trade my good health for a bit of weight loss, I only need to lose about two stone. |

Did Atkins a month before going on Holiday as I was very over weight and lost a stone in a month. I am going to start it again hopefully to lose another stone. I found it easy as I just did a list of the foods allowed that I liked and broke them down into individual items like cheese eggs bacon sausages pate chicken beef pork etc etc. Then I took those ingredients and made meals from them. Cooked brekkies, omeletes tuna salads chicken salads. I also went round Marks and Spencers food hall and noted food that I could pick up easily that were LOW in Carbohydrate as the biggest problem with this diet is that if you get hungry and look around for something to eat nearly everything you pick up will be loaded with carbs even something ‘Helathy’ like a banana was nearly as high as a small choccy bar. I then made sure when the wife went shopping that she bought the essential items I needed to do my diet and if I was at work and got stuck then It would be easy enouh to nip to Marks and Spencers and get some pre cooked chicken breast or some of the bacon tomato and chicken sandwich filler or cooked sausages etc etc and then stuff my face without breaking the diet. The other secret to it is to drink loads of water I was drinking up to 2 litres a day. This stops water retention and is also good for you. The biggest problem is finding your level where you introduce the carbohydrates back and knowing how many carbs you can eat in a day before you will put weight back on. The bad thing was alcohol is a no no but you can get away with a certain amount of red wine. The good thing is I have managed to fit back into my tux for the Ball this Friday night. Dom 2003 is going to be a good year for me |

Sure - first though i know of a few people that have done it with excellent results, losing a serious amount of weight and those that hae suffered some bad side effects... There is a website for it, but cannot remember what it is.. a search on google will no doubt come up with some answers.. it has all teh potential side effeacts listed on there - but to name a few! Constipation Kidney failure Vomiting Blindness Muscle loss (it wills trip muscle tissue as it is easier to strip muscle as opposed to fat) Heart issues Skin issues due to lack of vitamins On of th guys here lost 4 stone in 4 months on it... another one lost 5lb last week on it - one of th eother guys had to go into hospital with kidney problems. I have no doubt it works... but i am not prepared to take the risk - for others it may be best! Each to there own! Cheers, Craig. |

Well sounds good if you keep an eye on it, where did you get the info? I may have a month on that and see what happens, we could all try something different it doesn't matter, what is good for some may not suite others. Looks like a bit of dedication is required, perhaps you could be the Atkin's consultant for that group In the meantime I'll research it on google Cheers and thanks for the info "You only see what you recognise, and you only recognise what you know" |

the ONLY diet that workslong term is this have five portions of fruit or vegetables a DAY at least two litres of water a day twenty minutes of exercise that raises your heart rate and that may include some weights for toning a day cooked breakfast no more than once a week grilled not fried food redmeat no more than twice a week oily fish once a week do that and you can have good booze up at least twice a week without ending up like a house. any diet that means you donot eat normally is no good cos as soon as you eat normally weight will go back on it is dead simple equation start by burning off a bit more than you put in then once weight is off balance it up. failing that drink only voddy, smoke lots of fags and hardly eat. I can't walk on water, but I do run on Guinness |

People without enough food die of starvation skinny, greedy lazy loafers sat in offices posting on ybw are fat, ergo, its a balance between what you burn and what you eat/drink, Sailbad is right, plenty of good stuff like fruit and veg and plenty of exercise and its fine. I was 19 and a half stone, not so bad as I am 6 ft 3 ins but, I was out of breath and lethargic all the time, I changed the way I eat and now walk for a hour three time aweek and do a good bike ride once a week and feel much better even tho still 17 stone, never mind dieting and weight, change your eating habits permanently and acheive a higher level of fitness. Wanted - Austin Healey 110/6 or 3000 to rebuild, LHD considered. |

Totally agree with Ben and Max. I just use Atkins to speed things up cos the lighter I get the easier it is to exercise etc plus you don’t eat so much cos you’ve trained yourself not to etc etc. diets may be ok short term but nothing beats a good bit of exercise and healthy eating. I used to be 11 stone and couldnt put on an ounce, till I started working in an office and quit smoking. Dom 2003 is going to be a good year for me |

Have look at www.atkinscenter.com this wil give you all the info you need. You can also buy the books from Amazon. The most important thing is to balance the diet with Vitamin C, you can eat plenty of green veg and rhubarb. Good luck V8's rule! |

you went on the red wine diet and lost four days? I can't walk on water, but I do run on Guinness |

Loosing the weight is easy enough, personaly I find the hard part is actually keeping it off , not putting it all back on within a couple of months ! The answer is to eat less and exercise more, A lot easier said than done!!!! |
||||||||

Like some others I do believe it is a balance between excercise and eating. There is however a time in your life where you need to up the excercise or watch the eating as it seems to pile on. It would be good to be able to get rid of some of the nonsense excess weight quickish and then keep to a reasonable diet. I must say that every time I have been on a diet I seem to put on MORE after, has anyone an answer to that? I don't think it can be bad to at least make the effort to eat less, excericse more and use a diet as a kick start, it's got to be better than sitting at a desk eating burgers and drinking pints of lager It would just be nice to be able to exchange views as we are here, and help others who have trouble keeping to it. From what is on here already we seem to have some good advisors. Perhaps one fit person should team up with a dieter as their advisor and we could have a little competition So who wants to help me make my boat lighter "You only see what you recognise, and you only recognise what you know" |

So go on the bush diet ... the weight'll just fall off. Alernative diets are the Icelandic, Rugby Park half time scotch pie, and green diet. The Euro diet in Yarmouth is also renowned for its efficacy. |

The most successful way of dieting I have found is to accompany your good lady when she does the weekly trip to Sainsburys or wherever, buy only what you actually need for meals, plenty of fresh veg etc. Cut back on the size of the meal you consume, We eat as much fruit as we have the appetite for, No cakes or sticky buns, if its not in the pantry you cannot eat it ! Only problem with this is, when I go on a diet the rest of the family also goes on a diet !!!!!! With the resulting moans and groans. Still better ear-ache than a heart attack! |

Fatty Lancaster, our amiable but plump technician has lost 3 stone in the past 2 months. Apparently the side effects are Severe Constipation, smelly breath and increased sales of both Syrup of figs and listerine at the local Boots the Chemist. He diets each year and as someone else said, his problem is keeping it off. Having said that, this is the happiest diet I've seen him on. It was suggested that he go down to the local Kebab shop and sit on the thing and we'd carve bits off him as he spun round - he didn't seem keen. regards Claymore |

'I must say that every time I have been on a diet I seem to put on MORE after, has anyone an answer to that? cos when you diet, especially crash diet, your metabolism slows to adjust to the food you put in. target weight acheive. back on beers and pies. metabolism is not sure if this is one off good meal or if lean times are still around. so it does not kick start upagain and it is hello pounds. remember, evolutionary, we ain't that far from being subsistence hunter gatherers and our bodies our more primeval than our brains and still operate for conditions back then. I can't walk on water, but I do run on Guinness |

Craig, Atkins is safe enough if you follow it properly - you need to exercise and eat enough fat and protein, otherwise you will lose muscle. You need to drink loads of water like Dom says, or you will strain your kidneys. If you have an existing kidney complaint, then don't do it. Otherwise, I've lost 24lb in 8 weeks, and 3" off my waistline, and I feel great. |

This dieting lark is great if you have someone to plane your meals, shop for the food and cook it. Each time I got pregnant I put on weight (so did Nick) then after deciding now more children wanted to get back into shape (so did Nick). Deference is I have but Nick has put on even more! I am on the Weight Watchers Pure Points diet and have lost 3 stone overall and gone from a size 18 to a 12 which is feels fantastic. However, once you get there the next challenge is to maintain you goal weight. I have found the only way for me to loose weight and keep it off is to go to an organised meeting where I have to stand on the scales each week. Gets a bit boring after a while though as when then weekend comes I want to be on the boat eating, drinking and having a good time. Good Luck with your dieting. Joanne |

Hi Jo, I don't fancy the meetings but the best next thing is a bit of honesty on here (not that I would trust some of these guys as far as I could throw them Does Nick want to join in? "You only see what you recognise, and you only recognise what you know" |

Have heard of Atkins Diet, Dom (Depsol) told me about it and also a friend recently said she had been on it and done really well. The reason I did Weight Watchers was I found the point systems easy. Could have 22pts initially then 18pts a day. Can eat anything as everything has a number of points and just have to add them up and not go over daily allowance. They do a diet just for men calles MP5. Nick will definately join in (though he doesn't know that yet!) Joanne |

happy think of what you learnt in the regiment, you've been told that to many you appear over the top. you have concerns over safety which is good but accept others comments as help. come back with the spirit of making the most out of boating. but be realistic. we don't need ot lose someone who cares about making the most what we have. please don't spoil it for the rest of us. regards, steve. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.amos/index.html |
