connecting Auto pilot to GPS

I have a Magellan FX324 map colour and want to connect to my Raymarine Auto helm 2000. Do I connect the RS422 output(Yellow wire) to the Auto helm '+'(input) and the RS422 Reference(Orange wire) to the '-' or is it the power 0 volt(Blue wire) from the FX324?
help would be appreciated.

Re: connecting Auto pilot to GPS

If it is an AH2000 you cannot connect to NMEA or Seatalk.
If it is an ST2000 you need an interface box to connect to NMEA, or direct to Seatalk.
If it is an ST2000+ you can connect it to NMEA or Seatalk direct.

Depends on which model you have to give more connection details.

I've often questioned the logic in doing this, is it really sensible to have a blind pilot?

Whether it's steering a heading or tracking to a waypoint the a/p is blind in both cases. At least when following a track to a waypoint it's (roughly) following a known ground track. I guess in both cases the answer is "no" but convenience makes the risk appear acceptable.

Re: connecting Auto pilot to GPS

My point was WHICH wires do I need to connect. The Autohelm is Raymarine ST2000+. My navigation is always planned in the first instance Manually and then Electronically. By connecting the two it gives the opportunity for the lone sailor to move around the boat without too much worry

my " Interface box " is a block connector

Re: connecting Auto pilot to GPS

You need the interface box to send NMEA to a Seatalk ST2000 - as I have with my ST3000.

You do not need the interface box to send NMEA to an ST2000+, as it can read both NMEA and Seatalk. Therefore you can connect with a connector strip.

(Sorry about the previous thread drift!)
Yes - the way you intend to connect the wires is correct.
Alternatively you could probably use the white and green (rs232). Most NMEA listeners are happy with either.
