Inverter problem?

My boat (built 2002 but new to me this season) is equipped with a Vetus combined 24v 50A battery charger and 2000W inverter. The battery charger appears to be working just fine. Likewise the inverter...........until the input voltage falls below 24v when it cuts out. I would have thought it would continue to draw current until the input voltage fell a lot lower than this. Any views?
I have had a look at the vetus website but this model (or indeed any combined unit) doesn't seem to be mentioned.

Sounds about right to me though it could maybe go a little bit lower without harming the batteries. When you say that the input voltage is 24V, at what point are you measuring that? Directly across the terminals to the inverter or somewhere near the battery - there will be considerable volts drop along the feed wires when a 2000W inverter is pulling power.

most inverters have a safety feature which turns them off at 11.6v or 11.8v for 12v system to save you flattening the battery completely. A pain for emergency power supplies where you want to get every last bit of juice from a battery. If you measure at the inverter terminal just before it cuts out I bet you see 23.5v.
