Dunkirk little ships
|
I recall some years ago I was told of certain rights given to private British boats by the crown in recognition for the assistance given during the evacuation.
I think this included mooring rights and fuel costs.
I have never seen this in black and white so I don't know the facts, does anyone have the info or know how to find it?

The only 'Rights' I know about is we are allowed to fly the Admirals flag from the Jack staff when in company with nother members sailing to/from and attending an event.
I heard that we have right of way through the Thames locks but the only times this happens is on the Dunkirk Veterans Cruise upriver from Kingstone. Where we are escorted by the E&A launch, St Johns Ambulance launch and river police.
The older lock keepers know us or more correctly they know the boats and will often hold a lock for us. Or close it quickly behind us especialy when were motoring up to the Trad Boat Rally. Light refreshments are always to hand when locking through 'nothing heavier than a half pint'
I do understand the Queen is a part owner of my boat and as yet not helped by putting a penny towards the maintenance.

Don't know whether it is still there but there was one of these boats, owned by Raymond Baxter, moored in the cut to the right of Marsh Lock as you go downstream. It has a recognition insignia on the bow.

It is still there and the family were out on it over Easter.
