outdrive cover stolen

I know this is small fry compared to some thefts that people on here have suffered but while our boat was shored up in Chichester marina for new season preparation some sick cheapskate stole the top cover from the outdrive. Obviously stolen to order & it's cost me nearly £200 for a replacement. What's unnerving is that it was probably someone also berthed there as it's an odd thing for a passerby to steal.
If someone can afford their boat they should be able to buy their own parts for christ sake!
I hope I don't find out who it was.
I have posted about this on motorboat chat.

Re: outdrive cover stolen

I assume yours a volvo sterndrives...Unfortunately these items are stolen very frequently, possibly due to the replacement price and ease of removal. It has been known for these to fall off during use therefore the demand for these are quite high. As a marine enginner these items are always removed as part of the winterization process, and I would recommend all owner's to do the same. I am sorry this dosn't help much if yours are already stolen but it may encourage somebody to remove the two securing screws and simply place them in a safe place during the winter months .
