Chelsea Harbour Marina

Has anyone stayed the night on the pier at Chelsea Harbour Marina? I was hoping to go down at Easter and like the idea of not having locking times, giving a bit more freedom, but don't want to be blown around like a crisp packet all night.

Re: Chelsea Harbour Marina

Have not actually stayed on the pier but have wandered outside to watch stuff moored there.Probably the best argument for river speed limit ever.Watched several owners desperately trying to prevent damage to their moored boats while a bunch of large expensive gin palaces out of St Kats shot past causing havoc on their way back up to Teddington last bank holiday.

Us inside last year.
Might be fine over night when things are quiet but would I stop outside.....No
Just out of interest,it is much less hectic that St Kats,we were the only boat to lock in/out and it is lot cheaper.Showers are brilliant too.

I have spent the night there on many an occasion. It is a great mooring if you arrive late and leave early. When I use it I generally arrive 10-11pm and leave early next day.
Daytime it can be pretty lumpy.

Cheers, Chaps.

Pretty much as expected, looking on Google Maps, it does look quite exposed, but sounds like the problems are caused by fellow man rather than wind or tide! Looks quite close to the railway bridge too.

Guess I'll just have to take a call of convenience over comfort.

I was outside on the pier a month ago. River still quiet but it was fine. It was a late arrival, early departure though.

Re: Chelsea Harbour Marina

We've stayed a few times when the actual marina has been full, and can be pretty bouncy at times and mainly caused by passing boats. There is a river taxi that uses the pier as well, and he can be a bit of a bu@@er at times tearing off and arriving at high speed, and the off fast PLA and fire boats don't help either... As Byron mentioned, arriving late'ish and leaving early makes all the difference and makes it a good place to stay. Great Thai restaurant now at Imperial Wharf along with a very upmarket Young's there as well, had an amazing Chateau Briand there!

I don't think the river taxi is operating from there any more.

Yes, RT still stops at Chelsea Hbr: Mon-Fri, 6:30 - 9:20am & 17:30 - 20:00ish. Creates quite a wash & often bashes loudly onto pontoon.

Re: Chelsea Harbour Marina

the reply to my enquiry came from "Sophie Ray, Harbourmaster", so I would assume not.

Last time we were there a young lady was in charge.

That would be Sophie, she's lovely and very helpful. She actually lives on a boat in the marina with her hubby and little girl.

Re: Chelsea Harbour Marina

She answers emails. Politely and informatively

Doesn't sound like much, but I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who either don't answer or send a pre-written reply, and I can imagine that as harbour-master (not a particularly computer based job) she wouldn't have much time to do that.

Gets my vote!
