A sad sight.

Well I know some of us like to have the occasional moan about Narrowboats on the river, but I wouldn't wish this on anybodys pride and joy:
I went down on friday to check on my boat as the river was dropping, and the NB behind me was caught on a submerged shelf on its mooring. Unfortunately it was tied by two ropes to its roof which were stopping it from slipping off the shelf. Myself and the landowner tried levering it with scaffold poles, but 10tons of steel was going nowhere. We called the owner but before he got there it pulled its stakes and fell over 
I know I would be devasated, they are a nice old couple and I guess the NB is a right off.
Only last weekend they were down, I was setting my lines with the river rising, I had suggested they move it back and raft it off the other NB but they seemed happy.
I guess the moral is keep checking your boat as the river goes down, and if you have a NB, do not secure it by the roof.

Still, that frees enough moorings for a few proper boats...

It's always sad to see any boat sunk. There is an old wood boat that has sunk in our marina.

Saw another proper boat sinking when taking my boat up to DB marine from Windsor about 1 week ago...sad really, as it was a nice boat at the end of a garden.

Sad that some people have lost their pride and joy. However this I fear is symptomatic of many NB owners. They do not understand the concept of rising & falling waters whether river or tide and when offered helpful advice tend to snarl. I gave up trying to help ages ago.

According to Scott at T&K, the locals just kick her back in every time it happens
I want to give her a wash, it's so painful seeing the poor old thing.

Poor owners, I feel very sorry for them. I have been looking after two local NBs while their owners were away and those photos are quite scary.
