Re: Duet - Edwardian Yawl ...

Duet used to be (may still be) owned by the Courtauld family of fibres fame and I first came across her in the 1962 Tall Ships Race because she was on loan to Ocean Youth Club and skippered then by the Reverend Chris Courtauld. I was a spotty wannabee in the 1962 Tall Ships on Theodora, another OYC boat which was a Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter ownd by a Chris Ellis and again on loan to OYC rather than owned by them. Duet was in Camaret a few years back and still with Courtaulds and I've seen her in the Solent too since. She is a very pretty boat but was known for being a wet boat at sea, going through (some said under) waves rather than over them.

Was there not some connection with the Farimir Sailing Trust?

Re: Duet - Edwardian Yawl ...

I used to be a relief skipper for the Cirdan Trust. If I remember correctly, the Faramir Trust was founded by the same person as who founded the Cirdan Trust.

If you notice that the boats names at the Cirdan Trust included Arwen of Burnham and Queen Galadriel, then you might spot the 'Lord of the Rings' connection.

I frequently see her on the east coast, and she seems to refit in Ipswich. Very nice indeed.

Here's her sister also run by the Cirdan Trust from here in Maldon Essex, racing with us a couple of years ago.

Re: Duet - Rock 'n' Roll !

Went down to PSM this evening to see if she was still there. No, but on instinct went round to Port Erin, and there she was, anchored in the middle of the nicely sheltered bay.

If she rocks & rolls like this when sheltered I hate to think what she's like in a storm!

And yes, she did have a staysail up !

Ooeeer! Still, at least she's got an anchor ball showing.
