Fantastic news!!

My feelings? Kacking myself and so nervy/excited I could hardly sleep for weeks!

Advice? Pick a date and stick to it. You will never be ready otherwise. You will probably not be ready anyway, but if you wait 'till your s#1t is in one sock it never will be. Get it roughly foot shaped and get out of there. You can always do little jobs once you're away (we fitted all our headlinings and most of the galley joinery on the quayside in Gomera!).

I'm very jealous and hope you have a great time - keep the forum posted if you can, it would be good to hear how you're going.

Arthur

Well done and get to work fitting the kit.

Regarding thoughts, I have just the one. Set a date for leaving your home port and stick to it, until either you go or something comes along that stops you going. By setting a date you'll focus your thoughts on what has to be done by when. Clearly, leaving your home port doesn't mean setting off recklessly across Biscay in a F10 it could mean starting the journey down channel, etc. It makes (or it made for us) the whole thing real and focused our minds on what had to be done and what was merely a nice idea.

Best of luck.

Self-steering before buying the boat ? Your bio says Boat make/model TBA - go on - tell us what she is so we can all dream ! Good luck with the plans.

Excellent, I remember the feeling the first big chunk of cash was paid out for a towed generator (well worth it though) you feel like you're on your way.

I wouldn't worry so much about leaving late if that happens, there are loads of people doing the same, it just means shorter hops and more time in port checking weather charts. You also only really get to sort the boat out properly once you're on your way.

I bought my boat on 7th October in Lymington, then fitted out for long distance and coded her in Plymouth, departed Plymouth 18th October, but was then waiting in Falmouth for good weather until 4th November before heading to Spain. Just be prepared to turn back if you don't like it, we had one false start from Falmouth and another from Coruna.

First time we went off I spent far too long getting everything right and ended up going South far too late.

Last time we just set a date and left - when we got back a few years later we still had jobs on the list that were markes 'must do before we go.....'

I agree, fix a date, and go.

Number of times people have commented how much work I have to do on a boat and I always agree, knowing full well that I am off on the next tide or next day. Would love to see their faces whenever they came back and the boat was long gone.

On one occassion I was fitting a new forehatch in the late evening and from the quay the boat looked as if it was undergoing a total rebuild but next day everything was stowed, crew arrived and we were off to Norway.

Above all have fun.
