Job opportunity about to arise that mean I can choose to go to New York, Dubai or Singapore.
Advice needed about where to go.
We will be selling this boat and buying another so U.S. looks like good deal -- cheap boats, but crappy winter. Never lived in NYC but did live in Maryland so famiiar with lifestyle.
There is a slight plus that SWMBO is Canadian, but from teh other side, but at least the same continent.
Never been to Singapore or Dubai.. Seen some very nice expensive marinas on Singapore... No idea about Dubai.
No idea aboout boat prices in either location.
Will be lookibng for something up to about 40 foot good liveaboard for 2. Wife wants decksaloon, I am not fussed, but do love Vagabonds clipper bow, and all that
Budget will be £50k which rukles out a lot of what we both like! , Were we to stay here we'd likely get a moody 36 or a 33 eclipse.
Really spoiled by cuurrent boat huge aft cabin, standing heradroom almost everywhere for me a 6'5", but we want something a little newer.
Singapore sailing looks great.. DUbai I dunno... NY great in summer.
We'll be living aboard if allowed. otherwise will be pretending to live at a colleagues and be de facto live aboards... as we have done until very recently. (but now have permanent London moporing -- just in time to be leaving!
So guidance sought on quality of life, quality of boats possibility of liveaboarding and quaility of sailing.
PS anyone looking for a Sole Bay 44 ketch with permanent liveaboard mooring 3 minute walk from Canary Wharf......

crappy winter only in the North. Cruise the Chesapeake/Marthas Vinyard in the summer and work your way down to Florida after the hurricane season when it's warmer without the humidity. The others are always hot & humid.

Problem is will have to work full time --so only time out will be weekends and holidays --Sailed the Chesapeake wuite a bit down by Solomons Landing -- loved it and pretty hot and humid in the summers.. but nothing horrendous.. anyway thanks for the adcice

Dunno how good the winds are in Sing, down that way I think they're rather light and fickle, but that part of the world is fantastic. Believe the Mallaca pirate issue's cleaning up too.
Dubai is trying to get in on the watersports scene and sailing's meant to be taking off there big time, but I don't fancy it at all.
Can't say anything about NY, but I reckon there'd be good sailing on the coast that way- Chesapeake looks interesting.

Sailed up through Singapore a short while ago... Excellent place with several marina's and very nice and inexpensive one a ferry ride away at Batam. Not too much wind and more Big ships than you have ever seen. Makes the Dover Straights look empty.
New York has got mooring on the end of 52nd street $10 a night and there is a marina or two close by... Winters could be challenging with all that snow and blizzards. Chesapeake a bit better - Baltimore or Annapolis and commute..
Dubai - No real knowledge... Went up the Red Sea and found lots of wind, fantastic coral, wonderful anchorages - do not know much about marina's or social problems but suspect if it is sailing your after it could be a good place but I am sure other forumites have 1st hand experience of Dubai
