Hi All
Can anyone give me indications of any hurricane holes in the Virgin Islands? We will be there (God willing) for the next three weeks or so, and I would like to know where to run to.
Cheers Charles

There aren't any really good hurricane holes in the Virgins, maybe Hurricane Hole in the USVI. If a hurricane threatened I'd be inclined to head for the south coast of Puerto Rico, preferably Salinas which has excellent soft mangrove lined anchorages. You would have to be pretty unlucky to get a serious hurricane at this time of year, the season doesn't start until June, and the first one usually comes along in late July or August. September and October are when you really need to worry.

Coral Bay on St. John would work. In the Spanish Virgins Culebra has a good hurricane hole.

Charles...
Paraquita Bay is the accepted hurricane hole on Tortola. Very narrow entrance, surrounded completely by Mangroves. All the charter outfits have permanent moorings laid there but there is plenty of space to run up into the mangroves.
Just back yesterday from two weeks out there.
