No duty on self made biodiesel
      #1505912 - 05/07/2007 10:33

Not sure if anyone else has spotted this but on the 30th of June the regulations concerning small amounts (less than 2,500 litres per annum) of bio-diesel changed.

Essentially you do not need to register with the Government or pay duty if you make less than this amount per year.

So I'm going to be an exempt producer then. I've been called worse

Interesting. How much does the stuff work out as costing then?

Depends where you get raw materials from & how much you pay, if anything, but at the most 40p per litre plus your time. You must get it right though, go on a bio making course or similar.

35~40ppl but then there is the capital outlay for equipment and from what I have read the shelf life of "home brew" biodiesel is not so good.

And the palaver of shifting 750l of the stuff from home to boat I guess.

A trailer with an IBC on it will move 1000 ltrs a go. You can also use cooking oil direct from the supermarket.

Sorry, IBC Intermediate Bulk Container, a plastic tank in a metal frame costs £25-30, specially made for transporting fluids. Check on Ebay.

I assume that if you put it in a car you will still have to pay duty? Bio diesel does not seem to be favoured by marine engine makers are marine diesels more "precious" than other diesels?
