Ah well, where you go you don't get your table surrounded by a bunch of lackies? who, on a signal from on high, remove the stainless steel? domes from the plates before they put them on your table. Thought the service was very pretentious - you'd love it The food however, was excellent - been for lunch twice, as a treat for SWMBO.

Burton Race is an egotistical ass of immense proportions and the service is hit and miss. You could spend your dinner money better at RB's Bistro two doors up from Cafe Alfresco (book for breakfast) or the Anzac St Bistro (locals favourite) behind the church. If you can get upriver to Bow creek moor up at the Maltsters have a pint or two but go to the Watermans Arms pub where they have a good restaurant.

RBs is fine but it's not really in the same class. I stand by what I said - we were celebrating a special anniversary and the meal and service was up to the occasion. As for Burton Race, aren't all chefs egotistical asses? I'm not on commission, by the way.
However, you'll be glad to hear that I agree that the Waterman's Arms is preferable to the Maltsters for a meal (though I also used to enjoy going to the Durant Arms in Ashprington, dunno what it's like now, as I haven't been for a while) and that breakfast at Alfresco is brilliant.
