This is the result of my mate picking up a net right in the middle of the TSZ en route from Ramsgate to Calais, stopped him dead.
Dived into Dover for a lift and hold (only charged him 56 quid), where a yottie was saying that he had heard that the French equivalent of MAFF, or whoever where subsidising the fishermen to replace lost nets.
Hence the less scrupilous ones were dumping old nets to get new.
Anyone heard anytrhing similar?

I have my doubts a Stripper, et al, would deal with that mess...would it?

Cant believe that the french would do something like this knowing what a law abiding and uncorupt nation they are. To sugest that they would use underhand methods to try and benifit from state aid is unthinkable.

It should get you home rather than calling out the CG or RNLI for a tow. I've rope cutters on both shafts for this very reason, and they have worked twice for me so far. One case there was some rope left around the prop but free of the shaft, so just impared performance so we got home, lift, hold, remove and drop in.

That is, indeed, very reassuring. Next time I'm lifted, I'll have one fitted (single shaft).

Did you see 'djefabs' one last year, 5 NMs' off St Peters Port.
Derek said the net was massive and bloody strong. It took the diver a while to clear it all too. Here

I don't think anyone is purposely dumping this sort of stuff: after all, who is most likely to pick it up, given the time spent at sea? Strippers would be hard pressed to deal with that lot, you just tear off the fixed blade. Nets get torn and snagged, and when there's a bit of ground sea they get unsnagged and float up.
