How to improve the forum
      #1560767 - 28/08/2007 22:29

Many moons ago we were consulted about how we could improve the forum (IIRC I asked for a better search facility, Trev 25 to be consigned to Siberia without an internet link and a wiki).

My new one is more urgent! Could there be some sort of filter to prevent people posting extremely wide piccies as it really disrupts a chaps day when he has to move the forum sideways to find the next post key.

If any one responds to this post by posting an extremely wide picture as a lame attempt at humour I will hunt them down and make them listen to Des O'Connors greatest hits for an hour.

The resizing of photo's is probably only realistic if the pics are hosted here?

Don't understand, if I try to post an avatar which is oversized it is rejected. Why can't the same happen with image files?

Very specific. The software knows an avatar is being posted. If you want the forum software to sift through every post, and select all images, and resize them, that would be a large programming job.

It could be done, but faced with all the other upgrades, it would probably come low on reward vs effort.

Perhaps there could be a picture posting guide, with a maximum pixel width?

That way if someone transgresses they could be lambasted and bombarded with hate PMs.

Should be easy to do.

phpBB2 has a mod which prevents the posting of over-wide pics.

BTW, I have restrained myself as I believe I already hold the record for the widest post on this forum . . .

Can you send details to Dan?
When Keith asked for most wanted changes to forum, I think this one came out quite high.
