Well apart from a very occasional foray I've been off the forums for 18 months and I must say I'm amazed that the system still won't allow you a second search, or a third or a fifth, or a 20th.
Isn't it time the deficiencies of this forum were dealt with. Like for example, a menu of options to display only threads one has contributed to, threads one has started, threads since last visit etc.

If it came to it i would even enter a CAPTCHA code style thing in order to complete a search whenever I wanted...
I'm not sure as to the reason for the 5-minute delay, I dont get it on any other forum but it is probably something to do with advertising posts..?

It's due to the fact that searching puts a huge strain on the servers and was in part responsible for the forum hiccups some while back. Much discussed at the time

I dont know how it decides when you can do 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th searches but I have just done 5 in rapid succession in under 3minutes!

Perhaps it is worked out by the number of people on-line at any one time, or making a search at any one time. At 2:37 in the morning, you may have picked a very quiet time.

You've obviously got priviledged status Vic ! (unless something has just changed). After the second search fails I remember the Google route and use that,

I think Philip is probably right. It surprised me. I don't always have succes with Google searches of the forums so I usually persist with the "in board" search.

Makes sense if IPC thinks it doesn't matter, if IPC thought it did matter they'd buy a bigger server.
If you set up a public resource and it doesn't function well it simply is worse PR than if you hadn't bothered in the first place.
