I seem to remember that when the new format board first appeared, threads with new postings were at the top of the board. After a bit this changed, so that threads were in date order, irrespective of whether there was anything new or not.
This worked quite happily at first, but with a growing archive it's getting more difficult. I like to look at new postings on each board, so on the main board I take the number of new posts, subtract the number of new threads, then run down the board until I've read (or ignored) the requisite number. At first, with only one page to look at, this worked; but with a growing number of archive pages I may have to look at a number of pages to find the last reply (particularly when I find that I've miscounted anyway).
Would it be possible to return to the earlier format, perhaps as a user option? Alternatively, in the list of pages at the bottom, could any page with a new post be highlighted in a different colour?

The recently introduced New Posts heading (24 & 48 hours) is most useful.
It saves a lot of time searching.

We changed the default display due to user opinion. If others are finding things difficult, we can review it again, or see what other options might be available. Meantime, as suggested further down this thread, you can use the 24hr, 48hr and seven day new message buttons on the main index display to immediately throw up all new postings
