Kim
I just received the latest ybw.com newsletter and saw the announcement about the new enhanced forums, so I thought I'd have a look.
Sorry to say that I can't se any real enhancements at all. The forums still use the same awful clunky interface as ever.
There are loads of good forum scripts available which are *so* much better than this (Eg UBB, vBulletin, IkonBoard to name a few), yet you seem to be constantly trying to reinvent the wheel!
Oh well, I'll have another look in a year or so and see if things have improved . . .

John, 'enhanced' insofar as they have additional features beyond those that were in place before. They can be tailored to an extent and we have got some other features in place that were necessary.
If I over-gilded the lily, then apologies but watch the length of your bow before telling me you've never done the same!
In terms of which software or code we use, yes, we know there are a plethora of scripts out there and we have people here who can write their own. Take on board though that the feedback from many users was that the forums here were like an old pair of deck shoes; comfortably familiar even if past their former glory.
We can showboat any amount of new technology but it is rarely trouble-free on implementation; indeed I seem to have spent most of my first six months on ybw throwing possible new solutions for various things out of the door. Given the range of sites here at ybw we've got quite a few priorities at any one time and forums weren't the only thing we had to tackle in the past 10 days.
We are already looking towards the next move (and you won't have to wait a year for it), but I expect we'll upset as many people as we please when we do so, such is the familiarity and enthusiasm that many people have for these areas.

"Can't call method "users" on an undefined value at /ybw/cgi-bin/forums/webbbs_basic.pl line 1052."
WebBBS lacks several features that I consider to be basic requirements, like viewing a whole thread of messages at a time (or at least ten to a page) rather than having to load the whole page again for each message. I suspect that this is a deliberate decision though to increase your page views given the apparent reliance on banner ads!
You may well have a number of contributors who like the current style, but I suspect that you are losing far more due to the inadequacies of your chosen system.
Still, it's your train set . . .
Oh yes, another feature that is missing is the ability to view a message while replying to it -- I can't remember whether there were any other points I was going to reply to in your message!
Still, it's obvious that IPC (and you yourself) are committed to making YBW a significant presence on the web, so I hope that it goes well.

John, thanks for flagging the error message; you'll see it for a couple of days yet but there are moves in hand for a better solution. As you know, 24 hours is a lifetime here in virtual world...and yes, you'll see a lot more from us before this year is out.

OK - I'm here - Now will somebody PLEASE tell me how I can navigate to the PBO FORUM PAGE?
Is a (Back-Check-Link) not included in the curriculum for WWW designers any more?
A well-designed WWW page should include call-back hyperlinks that your Grannie (GrandMother) can use with minimal training.
If the page (or site) fails the 'Grannie' test - it is not competent.

PS, wouldn't it be easier to post new questions if you are having problems, rather than keep reviving 2001 posts, or are you just trolling?

I see you made it to PBO, so something about the site must make sense. Your coding doesn't, nor your predilection for responding to years old posts?
